To be completely fair, the only shot they had was trying somehow to bring down the goal differential. No way in hell City loses to Asston Villa or West Ham. Regardless, bravo Reds for the season they had. They are the only football team I care about. If they won all they needed was City to tie a game at least. You can't tell me West Ham playing some kick and run with an Andy Carroll goal, I had it drawn up in my head "THE HEADER", and then playing some catenaccio wouldn't have at least come out with a draw. It's a storyline that would have written it self. Two brutal matches (as a viewer & supporter) in a row. Jordan Henderson was sorely missed in each. I can't blame them against Chelsea. Mou just parked a freaking bus infront of them. It was tough. Today I think they got out of control, trying to score 15 goals which I can't really fault them because 1) Palace looked there for the taking and 2) that's what they needed to do. After they scored their 1st goal it should have been a sign to realize they needed to get out of their with a win to at least have a chance and put the pressure on City. I mean look at what happens when teams play with pressure. Maybe Henderson would have helped but honestly it's one of those things, would the Red Sox have won the 2003 WS of Grady Little takes Pedro out?

Hendo is a boss in defense (and admittedly a personal favorite) and would have made a difference against Chelsea as well, but I hear you on the '03 analogy. Liverpool just need to follow it up as The Sox did in '04. A properly healthy Sturridge would have made a lot of difference as well. But who am I to complain, competing for top of the table was beyond my wildest dreams coming into the season, to say nothing of after that brutal loss to Southampton last September.

Definitely Henderson would have helped, he does a lot of things that don't show up in the box score.
It's a very good season for Liverpool, one to build upon, they are back in the champions league and fought for the title. Hopefully the way it's ending doesn't discourge the players. It's a big summer with the allure of the Champions League they could be in play for a couple of players that otherwise maybe wouldn't have thought of Anfield. I'd guess midfield and defense would be a priority unless Lucho Suarez leaves.

I don't see Suarez leaving in this window. I badly want Shaw and Lallana.

No World Cup for Landon Donovan. Julian Green a German-American kid who is supposed to be a hot prospect for Bayern Munich did make the team.

I'm really enjoying the World Cup so far. Big win for the U.S. against Ghana. Ghana has put the hurting on them in recent years. Like to hear from Pedro or one of the other fans what the U.S chances are Sunday .
The Spain vs Netherland match was the most entertaining I've seen so far.
The grounds keepers have done a great job keeping the pitch in shape through all the rains.

Its been very good so far with upsets and some good games.
As for USA vs Portugal I think the us has a better chance than initially anticipated, specially if Ronaldo isn't 100%. The US's biggest achilies heel I have seen is in defense, they let too many clear chances. They haven't paid for it so far but they need to be more tight back there.
Portugal has many questions right now with Ronaldo not 100%, Coentrao is injured too, Pepe is out. They rely on playing good defense and Ronaldo providing the offense so this really hurts them.
It close to 50-50 to me which not a lot of people would have imagine a few months ago.

Not sure how his knee responded. Thanks for the overview.

Ghana helped out the U.S. big time. Win or draw against Portugal today and they move on. They can still move on with a loss but they would need help and it's to complicated for me to explain. Match starts at 6 eastern time in the U.S.
Ronaldo practiced yesterday with a knee brace on and is expected to play.

I know I should be happy with four points in the first two games blah blah blah but that was just such a gut-punch.

So they move on with:
A win A tie A Portugal/Ghana draw A close loss combined with a Portugal close win
Sound about right?

So they move on with: A win A tie A Portugal/Ghana draw A close loss combined with a Portugal close win Sound about right? Any one of those will do. What a great performance tonight, obviously the late goal tainted it quite a bit, but a great effort, I thought they thoroughly outplayed Portugal. Jones' goal was a thing of beauty, Klinnsman's in game management has been spot on in my opinion. Clearly the Cameron miscue was costly, but my one nitpick was the turnover by Bradley at midfield with :20 seconds left, just dump and chase, kill the clock. If they play like that against Germany I believe they can play themselves into the Knockout Stage without having to worry about the other game.

Bradley isn't getting nearly enough criticism for his misplay. That's two games in a row where he's made an idiotic play very, very late.

U.S. and Germany about to kick-off. Not sure what the TV ratings will be here being a work day, but Sunday's ratings were huge, 19 plus million on ESPN another 6 mill on US Spanish channels.
Go US.
Germany wins 1 to 0. Both teams move on. Congrats to the U.S men getting out of "the group of death". Bring on the knockout round.

That was an unbelievable game between Belgium and the US. Proud of our boys. They had no business being in that position.
