Lots of stars to hand out. Eovaldi, Pillar, JBJ, Vazquez, Peraza, JDM, Valdez. Lin is batting 1.000 and started a double play that Joe C. raved about.
Good team game by the Sox.

Fun win. The Orioles resemble a minor league team. Of course they did last year and the 2019 Red Sox struggled against them so it was nice to see the 2020 Red Sox beat them up. Pillar and Peraza (what did he see - like 6 pitches?) looked really good tonight. The Orioles staff can make anybody look good but give them a ton of credit, they took full advantage. Devers did look like a guy who didn't stay in shape. I think it will affect his offense a little, but it's his defense that could suffer. If weight becomes an on-going issue down the road and if his offense is still excellent and the Sox could extend him, maybe his future is at DH with Casas at 1b (I wish he was playing this year) and Blaze Jordan at 3b (hey I can dream, right?) Otherwise we know Devers is capable of being a solid 3b. Hopefully down the road he stays in shape. Bottom line - it was just SO nice to see baseball. Win or lose that's the way I'll look at this season. Can't be too aggravated or too high during a strange 60 game season. Devers, with a ton of money on the table before him, lost discipline at the 'all you can eats'. So too he swung at many pitches outside the zone tonight...in keeping with past performance....more lack of discipline. Last year it was breakout. My gut tells me that this year will be backslide. Pillar is a solid player....not a 4th outfielder type. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Verdugo vault past Beni.

I really feel like Cora had a big influence on Devers and not having him around to work with him will hurt

Christopher Smith @smittyonmlb · 12m Jose Peraza recorded his four hits in his Red Sox debut while just seeing eight pitches in his five-at-bats.

Obviously a very small sample size upon which to base this comment, but I’d like to see them try him at lead-off. I’m not sold on Benintendi as a lead-off hitter.

I’d like to see Benintendi make more of a conscious effort to go the other way. Seems like he’s been caught in a long slide of a lot of rolled over/soft contact on the ground.

I feel like this year is going to put a damper on Beni's development. There's no spring training or start of season to work on things and then see the fruit as the season goes along. I'm worried about him.

I'm worried about him. I love Beni, and like others wish he try to go the other way a bit more, but so early. I mean, they didn’t have a full spring training, and it’s tough to get a sense of a player in a season with 50 or so games played (if that). The sprint will be weird, but I hope these guys can adjust and embrace. all that said, I can’t believe to this day the Red Sox refused to trade Beni for Yelich when they had the chance, IF those rumors were to be believed, and I think Dombrowski even partially confirmed ithe ask at the time Miami was having the fire sale when he was queried about this by a reporter and instead of denying said something to the effect of, “We believe Andrew is a special player.” Sigh.

Why isn't Bogaerts in the lineup today? He came out early last night but I thought it was just because of the big lead.

Kind of feel like Cora helped mature him and get him over the hump, turning his ability into results.

Benintendi LF, Martinez DH, Devers 3B, Bogaerts SS, Pillar RF, Vázquez C, Chavis 1B, Bradley Jr. CF, Peraza 2B. Eovaldi P LFG Also, always gotta reply to that song with this one. (Also I'll never forgive Terry Cashman for the abomination of a song he wrote for opening day 2005 to play while they raised the pennant...) So many classic parts to that episode: (Don Mattingly returns to the field wearing a mohawk hairdo after Mr. Burns asked him to shave off his sideburns, which never existed in the first place.) Mr. Burns: Mattingly! I thought I told you to trim those sideburns! GO HOME!!! YOU'RE OFF THE TEAM, FOR GOOD!!! Don Mattingly: Fine! (to himself) I still like him better than Steinbrenner. Officer Eddie: (reading Steve Sax's license) Well well, Steve Sax, from New York City. Officer Lou: I heard some guy got killed in New York City and they never solved the case. But you wouldn't know anything about that now, would you, Steve? (Lou and Eddie laugh) Steve Sax: But there are hundreds of unsolved murders in New York City. Officer Lou: You don't know when to keep your mouth shut, do you, Saxxy Boy? Homer: Please please please, I want to make the team. Clemens, did I make the team? Roger Clemens: You sure did! Homer: I did? Woohoo! Woohoo! In your face Strawberry! Roger Clemens: Wait a minute, are you Ken Griffey Jr.? Homer: No. Roger Clemens: Sorry, didn't mean to get your hopes up.

I’m also wondering if JimEd14 has decided not to post anymore. The game day thread will be different without him. I leave open that he’s just busy tonight, but I kinda think he’s moved on. Hopefully he's healthy, which is the most important thing, but I won't miss him telling us how we should root for the Sox or complaining anytime an umpire call goes against the Sox or a blooper falls in against the Sox or if the BABIP of the opponent is the reason why all those liners are falling in, etc. JimEd was a prolific poster. I also wonder what happened. Hopefully he is still watching the greatest franchise in sports history.

I've been pretty unimpressed by Perez going into the season. Not a great start, hopefully he can turn it around. Might be a lot of runs today.

Given this guy's stats and the quick look at his stuff that we've gotten, it's hard to see him getting through a good lineup. He's Brian Johnson.

Very curious to see which Alex Cobb the Sox face today. The healthy one is kinda scary.

Look for the Yankees to trade for Alex Cobb at the deadline. You heard it here first.
