I will never fully recover my love for the Sox. Still feels worse than Buckner’s wickets.

I know Kimbrel may be shot either way, but that really screams pitch-tipping to me. That said, he's never had particularly good command - just that his movement and velocity have always been excellent and his release point consistent enough that the fact that he misses spots consistently didn't really hurt him. If players can differentiate between his fastball and breaking stuff then he's not any good because he's never been able to locate.

If players can differentiate between his fastball and breaking stuff then he's not any good because he's never been able to locate. What’s weird is they said they don’t think it is tipping. Maybe they are playing it close to the vest, but this certainly sounds like it. His fastball is still 97, so it is not just that he has lost stuff.

He's also throwing his curve slightly more often than ever, which seems like a poor choice. And this is easy for me to say as someone who doesn't have to stand in the box, but maybe the difference between 97 and 99 is enough for batters to pick up the fastball and lay off if it isn't.
In general, they're not going to come out and say "yeah we think he's tipping his pitches" without being able to identify what the tip-off is.

In general, they're not going to come out and say "yeah we think he's tipping his pitches" without being able to identify what the tip-off is. It also seems like it has two paradoxical lessons, too: on the one hand, don’t over-commit to a closer, because even the best go kaput quickly oftentimes, and the difference between dominant and woeful might be a couple MPH and the loss of a bit of command (or just poor command finally catching up); yet, at the same time, it shows that because 97 and a power slider can still suck at closing, elite closers are not nearly as easily made as one would expect. Which leads one to think “hang on to one when you have him,” which returns me to the first rule. Ad infinitum.

This season proves that baseball is a dying sport. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw significant contraction in the next 20 years to 10-20 teams and the near complete elimination of minor league baseball.

Serious question, and I don’t know the answer: how many cities/markets have a baseball team and another major sports franchise and the baseball team is the favorite? I ask cause I live in WA, and I’d say the Mariners fall behind the Seahawks, the Sounders, and, depending on what side of the state, UW or Wazzu. And sure the Mariners blow, but still...

And by “fall behind,” I mean camp news, off-season news regarding the ‘hawks , Huskies, or Cougs is bigger than regular season Mariner news.

Still more money out there than prior to the 1970s. Watch old games from the old days and see half empty stadiums. And in those days there was barely any tv money.

I don't think this is a fair question as it concerns the mariners ... We have been traveling to Seattle ;since the late 80's to watch the sox every series they play there. We have never seen a game their when the Mariner fans didn't start leaving whenever they got behind. That doesn't seem to say there every was many loyal fans around washington for them. heck back when Griffey was there in his best days when the Mariners got behind my kids could jeer Griffey when he was at the plate (we usually had loge box seats halfway down the first baseline) and he could hear them when they were behind. Every time we were there and the sox got ahead by 3 runs or so they started leaving. I've been to games in Fenway, Oakland, Denver, Frisco, and La and we never saw that type behavior. Not surprising any sport in Washington would be a better follow.

Maybe St. Louis? Not a hockey fan so a little bit of assuming but Cardinals fans are pretty crazy. After them, I think the closest is probably the Yankees in New York.

Mike Soroka, torn achilles. Done for the season. What a waste.

Boston also surprises me because the Patriots have been so good for so long, but I'm from California and I'm only a Sox fan so my knowledge is quite limited. Don't know about Cincinnati though, and I think in about five years the Bengals could be number one with a vice grip.

I'll be tuning in tomorrow if he's debuting, hope Trout will be back.

Coincidentally saw this (except with little airplanes): Mike Trout @miketrout · 4h Seattle AirplaneAirplaneAirplaneAirplaneAirplane!! . . . . . Ohtani has a forearm strain. Unlikely to pitch this year. Hitting is day to day right now.

Interesting leaderboards so far. Who leads baseball in defensive bWAR? Mookie Betts. Who is .1 behind overall lead for bWAR? Mookie Betts. I will never fully recover my love for the Sox. Still feels worse than Buckner’s wickets. That trade is flat out inexcusable. It will take quite a long time for me to watch another Red Sox game. It truly sucked the passion out of me.

No idea, I don't follow any other sports. But the owners are making lots of money and there are plenty of fans out there and it makes no sense whatsoever to say that the league will contract by 50% and the commenter gave no reason why that should be the case.

For someone who has supposedly had the passion sucked out of them you sure do spend a lot of time complaining about a game on a random internet board.
