After cleaning up yet another unnecessary tangent this morning, I felt the need to address the general tenor and tone of the board lately.
Just to first respond to this, I don't think folks are necessarily aware of the number of posts we've deleted of late. In addition, please keep in mind that we don't all constantly monitor the board, so sometimes things are going to stay up for a bit before being deleted. I really don't appreciate the insinuation here regarding our moderating staff, which is a group of unpaid volunteers who are here in their spare time.
Furthermore, while we've pretty much had to allow a certain amount of tangents related to COVID-19 and the response thereto because that is very much relevant to baseball trying to play its season, we have not and will not tolerate unnecessary tangents into politics. Why? This is a baseball message board and isn't the place for that. Really don't care what your political persuasion is, it's getting deleted. We've deleted plenty of posts that could be classified as liberal and conservative, so no, it does not have anything to do with your political stance.
Some posters have already received DMs about this and been warned. Posters unable to toe the line are just going to get banned. We also retain the right to ban posters without a warning, although that's typically not been our practice and we reserve that for only the most egregious situations.
Furthermore, a post was recently deleted that casually included an inappropriate reference to Down Syndrome. Let me be very clear - such casual, inappropriate references to disabilities are going to be sufficient cause for banning going forward. The poster in question has been banned both for this and for the above following a previous warning on the politics issue.
Finally, a request to please maintain a respectful tone when posting. Having been here when seasons went down the tubes, sometimes posters get more likely to get nasty to each other. We really want this to be a welcoming place for all posters, which is the point of all of the above. It's fine to get frustrated. It's not fine when things get toxic and this just doesn't become a fun place to talk baseball.
To all of you, thanks for posting. We appreciate you being here and hope you all continue to stay safe.
Chris
Agree this board has been great for years about things like that and sticking to baseball topics but these last few weeks the mods have dropped the ball.
