And with that, the Red Sox set a new modern era MLB record for the longest losing streak, calculated as a percentage of a season.*
*Unless there was some crazy losing streak in one of the strike-shortened seasons, I'm too lazy to look it up.

I hate to say it, but I'm at the point where I'm literally rooting for them to lose every damn game, hoping the Pirates can get back playing and steal a few games (their pitching can't be as bad, can it?!!) and praying that Manfred lets the 2020 season only dictate the draft order.
Otherwise there is nothing at all to root for with this awful team, which will be stripped down even further in a couple of weeks. I mean, is there really any joy if they win a few here and there and wind up 23-37? Hell, they might as well go 16-44 and get that first pick if it's available. Even if it's a combined 2019-2020 record of some sort, the more they lose the worst that figure becomes. At this point I'm rooting for draft order and hoping they don't blow the pick.
This is easily the most atrocious pitching staff I've seen them have. If you're gonna suck, might as well suck when it's only a 60 game fiasco, errr. I mean season.

This Sox bullpen is the same one they had in spring '19.
Jimy Williams could deal with this roster. With Kerrigan.

There's no chance this team wins 15 games. I could understand if this was a fun team to watch too and they had some young developing pieces but thats not the case. Verdugo and Xander are becoming the only reason I watch this team.

Watching Devers fire one to right field is kinda fun, too. They've got some kids in the pool who could use some experience. Nothing to lose.
Still feels like an extended Spring Training to me.
Except for Devers and Boggie, they should entertain all trades that bring them young pitching for next year.

And speaking of alexcora, who could have imagined that his leaving would have been a good thing for him? If one looks on Wikipedia under the definition of sacrificial lamb, there is a grainy tintype of Ron Roenike. He will have the unfortunate legacy of managing the worst Sox team in history. But at least he will be able to say to his great grandkids sitting on his knee that he once managed a 'season' in the major leagues during the great Covid War.

Teams will stink, sure, but there are lovable losers. This ain’t one. This team seems joyless and charisma-deficient. Where is the character? The saddest part of Devers’s struggles is that he is the most appealing personality on the team, and he seems down. RR might be worse than Valentine: he seems just as detached and incompetent without even doing us the service of being one of the great heels in Sox history. Edit: speaking of which, Alfredo Aceves is only 37!! I wonder if he is stretched out?

They seem joyless a) because they're losing every damn game, and b) because you have an irrational resentment toward Verdugo, who's turned out to be a super charismatic player who's delightful to watch.

True. Hard not to take the losing hard. But it is a stoic bunch in the best of times. I hope some of the young guys bring some flair. I really, really want to see Duran.

Speaking of charisma, how about those 2016 Red Sox? They had Mookie, Xander, Pedroia, and Big Papi in the lineup, and they all had great seasons. JBJ had a 5 WAR season and was flying around the outfield like Superman. And they had Koji, Joe Kelly, and Kimbrel in the bullpen. Has to be the most likable team in Red Sox history, just based on the personalities and aesthetics. And then they got swept in the first round of the playoffs, and how often do we talk about the joyfulness of the 2016 Red Sox?

I don’t necessarily talk about it, but I bet day to day in 2016 I loved it. What more can I ask for than a bunch of guys who lighten up my life for a few months every year? You know what? I don’t reflect on the championships much day to day, either. When I read the news I don’t say, “but man, the Sox won the WS in 2007!” (And that was an especially anti-climactic series, too). I do, however, set the world aside to watch the Sox many days... and good year or bad, for that one day, I hope to be entertained. Jesus, I’d give half the roster to get Joe Kelly back. Would we be better? No way. But I bet I’d smile more watching them suck.

Hart probably deserved to be 2-2 on Harper... not a 4 pitch walk. But... I don’t see it mattering.

No way they should have lost or got swept by a decimated Indians team. The Sox lacked starting pitching depth (Buchholz starting game 3 of ALDS) but beyond that were damn strong. That team even had a young Moncada on it. Like Moncada, the team just wasn't ready to win, which was too bad because David Ortiz was amazing. I do think there was some Ortiz retirement ceremony fatigue going on at the end which didn't help.

That’s twice this year that Pillar has been cut down on the bases.
Can’t anyone here play this game?

Pillar gets picked off. It's not just pitching, this is just a bad baseball team right now.

Oh my god. That is little league stuff, man. Where are the unwritten rules when you need them?
