If I had a nickel for every time I yelled 'just get in the fn box" at my TV, I could be retired and living on a tropical island. Aren’t you? See, no egrets. I could buy those though.

My list of most hated players would be a Who's Who of MFYs*. At the top of the list from the 70s would be Nettles, Rivers, Munson, Dent, Piniella and Martin. In the '80s, none really. They sucked and were irrelevant. In the '90s and early 2000s, O'Neill, J. Nelson, Pettitte, and Posada. After that, Ass-Rod, CC, Sanchez, Gardner, Gardner and Gardner. The list of those through the years I didn't hate as much: Randolph, Winfield and Rivera (until his retirement days when he's earned an epic level of hate). *Please note that the players listed here are just the MFYs I hated the most. I truly hate just about all 'em, except for Tiant, G. Scott, D. Lowe, Youks and a small number of others. Agree in general but a very few of my all time favorites are Yankees. Mantle, Berra, Mo, Guidry, Whitey Ford and yes, Billy Martin. One of my most hated, not listed, horse faced Mark Tiexiera.

He seemed like a good dude, and if he’d squeezed out a bit more health, he’d have a good chance of being a HOFer. Add: he still has a really good case.

In the spirit of Jackie Robinson day, Wakanda forever.
An obscure reference for those who get it, and why.

I can have grudging respect for some of the MFY greats, but that's different than actually liking them. I have to take issue with a couple on your faves list. Whitey Ford was a serial cheater. Martin was a punk who liked to sucker punch people. I'll add Guidry to my list of those I hated less. Also, Reggie. I read his autobio as a kid and still remember how he gushed with respect and reverence for Yaz. That'll get a guy points from me in a hurry. Tiexira? He didn't really hurt us much on the field, as I recall, and he wasn't a douche off the field. Being ugly isn't his fault.

Whitey was a class act off the field, Mantle had a fantastic personality and Martin was a fireball but a fireball that stood up to George. Tiexiera just had a God's gift demeanor in interviews to me. Agree with Manfred about CC but mostly off the field. I'm not sure why I watched this but I once saw a show about his house with CC & his wife. What a nice couple they are. Players I didn't like all along not just the end, for whatever reason, not specific but not related to baseball talent: Fred Lynn, Nomar, Roger doughnut, Josh Beckett, Steve Garvey & Bobby Gritch

Jen McCaffrey @jcmccaffrey · 3h Martin Perez said he had a blister on his left index finger that bothered him tonight, but he tried to pitch through it. Thinks he'll be OK for his next start. . . . Note that he didn't say which uni he will be wearing.

Rocker definitely. Can't remember anything specific about Lugo (except he sucked) or Castillo.

Can't remember anything specific about Lugo (except he sucked) or Castillo. I think both Lugo and Castillo suffered from Mike Lansing disease on top of sucking, namingly demanding they be in the starting lineup or get their starts even when they were both terrible terrible players. I instantaneously hated the Lugo signing, we grossly overpaid for him and at the time the team just tried to oversell him to us similar to the way they did with Sandoval.

To me, there are two kinds of hate: there is “respect hate” and “disrespect hate.” I hated, say, Rivera out of respect. He was great and helped the Yankees. So I hate him as a noble enemy. Then there are guys like McGuire, who was a bum softball player until he juiced up. He is contemptible. There is only one other category for players on other teams, indifference. That covers most guys.

I thought Mazza was making decent pitches but got bad results all inning.
Darwinzon's fastball just 92-93mph tonight.

Hernandez is finding the corners. That's really encouraging. I'm wondering if he didn't slow it down just to try and build in a little more command.

I thought Mazza was making decent pitches but got bad results all inning. Darwinzon's fastball just 92-93mph tonight. That is not great velocity, but he misses bats. He just has a special ability to K guys. It must be hard to see the ball from his hand.

Raffy trying to lay down a bunt hit against Annibal Sanchez; sure that says something about how he's feeling at the plate.
