i see the bullpen's trying to come up clutch here with the Angels and Pirates having won their games today. 2 walks, and Brasier comes in, immediately balks them up a base, and throws a wild pitch.

Dalbec may have shown discipline in the minors, but he is flailing. This is getting kind of ugly. He's had fewer than 20 regular season MLB PA's. He will likely make adjustments. And even if he doesn't he's not that much worse than Chavis so I'll take the hope of the unknown with Dalbec. I should clarify that I don't think either of them will be good long-term, but I am more comfortable that Chavis is who he is at this point than Dalbec.

Who was the poster that would consistently talk about how Dalbec was an elite prospect with 3 plus-to-better tools? Not trying to "I told you so" him but I just can't remember who it was.

I am not writing him off after a few games. Just saying it is ugly now. Partly sympathy. It is like a boxer who might need the corner to step in. But I think Chavis looks a bit more athletic.

Amazing that Phillips Valdez still has a 2.08 ERA.

Chavis, 3-pitch strikeout to end it

Sucks that the Sox lost and sucks even more that Valdez got hit with the L, but combined with a Pittsburg win the Red Sox are only percentage points ahead of the Pirates in the race for the #1 pick.

We're #1!!
With the Angels and Pirates winning, the Red Sox are the worst team in baseball.
Technically they're a couple of pct points ahead of Pittsburgh, having lost 2 of the 3 extra games played, so they're a half game worse, but a couple of points better.
But still.....if Manfred doesn't screw them over, this team is bad enough to get that 1st pick of the draft.

come on champs.....is it really necessary to gloat about being the worst team in baseball ? Perhaps i am taking you too literally, but FFS, and I apologize.
This is the gameday thread. Shouldn't we at least be limiting the # 1 talk to other (numerable) threads. Gameday threads should be about winning, dang it all.

Okay, I'm not saying I'm rooting for the Red Sox to lose... but perhaps I am at the point where I am rooting for the Pirates to win.
And I am interested to see that the Pirates have 10 games left against sub-.500 teams (CIN/KC) while the Red Sox have only 3 (BAL).
ADD: And the Angels have a 13-game stretch coming up against Texas, Colorado, and Arizona; that's a lot of W's that'll have to go to one cellar dweller or another.
ADD 2: Actually, the Red Sox have a much more difficult schedule than their, uh, competition. Those 3 games against the Orioles are the only ones remaining against teams not currently in playoff position; every other lousy team has at least 10.

Maybe Devern Hansack can start a game in the double header.

Can we see Duran? Give me a reason to watch, man.
Maybe throw Houck a bit?

If game threads were about winning, they're only be a dozen game threads this year. Honestly, it's mostly tongue in cheek, but I'd be lying to you if I said that the loss bothered me. I get upset at losses that matter. This was a great loss. Really, it's about the future and if losing gets them that first pick, I'm all in favor of it. Anything that favors the Red Sox down the road. Rooting for them to win this season is a fool's errand. Didn't take a rocket scientist to see they'd be awful this year. I didn't think they'd be THIS bad, but I'm not surprised by it. They have no pitching. Can't win games that way, so I might as well root for that #1 pick. Better chance of that happening than rooting for them to win in this lost season.

We have Hart and Brewer to the 10 day IL. Marcus Walden was called. (I think) they will need one more plus a pitcher for the double header.

I was making a point. Hey Jerry. I didn't appreciate the patronizing comment by Freddy either. I expressed my opinion and you expressed yours. You have always been respectful to me whether we disagree or not and hopefully I have been with you as well. I think you're great and have always enjoyed our dialogue whether we agree or not on a subject. At the end of the of the day, we ultimately want the same thing - the Red Sox to kick some butt. I'm all for the long-term as I knew 2020 was going to be ugly. It goes really hard against the grain for you to ever root against Boston, even for their long-term benefit. I get it. I mean I was watching the game last night but it felt lifeless for me, not caring whether they won or not. Strange feeling. One I don't enjoy. But I still always bleed Red Sox red and look forward to the day they have a team that's truly worthy of our support.
