They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

Houck should be interesting. Decent pitcher that still needs work. This might be a good learning experience for him to take into next season.
Watch for his command vs. lefties.

Should be a pretty good matchup for Houck. Marlins are a pretty right-handed heavy lineup.

Mazza and Kickham have been their other most recent starters, and both have shown promise, so you'd think that one starts on Wednesday, and the other would start in the Yankees series between Perez and Houck. Since the Yankees have seen Mazza twice but not seen Kickham, and the Yankees hit worse versus LHP, that argues for Kickham against the Yankees ... but Mazza would be going on 3 days if he starts tomorrow and Kichham on 8 days versus the Yankees, or 3 days if he pitches in relief tonight.
Kichham's on 4 days rest tonight and may be the designated long guy if Houck struggles, and the starter tomorrow if he doesn't. Hence the TBA.
But that kind of hoses Mazza after he looked good again his last time out. It seems as if they've gotten into the habit of not planning ahead, when it would be good to give these two guys regular use to see if they're 2021 contributors.
------
Batting order I'd like to see the rest of the way:
Arroyo Verdugo Bogaerts Devers
Dalbec Munoz LF / DH
Chavis ditto Vazquez Bradley
Gives reps to guys you want to take a look at while still keeping a credible lineup. Gives Verdugo and Devers experience in batting order positions that might be best for them. An optimum 2021 batting order might well start Bogaerts, Verdugo, JDM, Devers.
I'd like to see Chavis and Munoz in RF on the road.
You can play Dalbec at 3B, DH Devers, and have Chavis at 1B some games.
JDM works on his swing and gets PT when he needs it by giving Bogaerts or Devers a day off, which gives Arroyo a look at SS and 3B.
The sad thing is that playing all of Arroyo, Munoz, and Chavis and sitting JDM does not project to be tanking.

Nobody is here posting about Houck’s relatively clean first inning?
Congratulations Tanner Houck. You’re a big league pitcher!

It's less than 2 innings, but I'm really impressed with his raw stuff. If the starting thing doesn't work out, it's not hard to imagine as a strong backend bullpen arm.

At this point, this is the 2nd best start I can remember this season, after Perez’s great 7 inning game a few back.

We need an impact middle order bat next year. JD is probably toast.

For reference, last time out in a sim game, Houck threw about 100 pitches.
Sacrilege but lets get Houck a W

This has likely already become a cliche, but he reminds me of good-Justin Masterson. He looks mostly fastball/slider, but especially with the two-seamer, that gives him three looks. Could be enough.

Has been a while since I've thought about Masterson, but I don't remember his slider being quite as filthy as what we're seeing today?? Boy, is this start a nice surprise.
