One Red Sox coach who spent countless hours attempting to help Sam Horn with this fielding fundamentals commented that Horn put in the work but that someone else was going to have to hit the next million ground balls to him because that coach had given up.

I have a weird feeling that Nick Yorke is destined to be the 3rd best 2b in Red Sox history, with his spot just below Doerr and Pedroia (whichever order you want to place on those two). I've quickly gone from, "Nick WHOOOOOOOOO? ?!!! And WHYYYYY Chaim!!!??" to "Can't wait to see this kid hit!!!"

If you're a betting man, take the odds between "3rd best 2b in franchise history" and "Why the hell would they draft him?". I never said my gut instinct is rational.

Downs vs. Yorke is going to be the new Dalbec vs. Devers, or Cecchini vs. Middlebrooks. Who else am I missing?
What will we do with TWO future All Star 2nd basemen??

Lars Anderson vs Anthony Rizzo was fun for a bit. And though it's different with outfielders because obviously multiple can play at once, I remember gonig back and forth on Kalish vs Reddick quite a bit too on who was going to be better.

Lavarnway or Fedorowicz (answer, of course, being Vazquez)
Iglesias or Bogaerts
Chavis or Devers
Tejeda or Dent or Gibson or Navarro
For a short time Hanley or Pedroia
And yes you never really get this in the outfield or on the mound.

Was there ever a Dalbec vs Devers? Dalbec vs Devers?? Was there ever? There still is in some quarters. There are those who think Dalbec is potentially a better 3B and will hit for so much power that the Sox need to keep him. Another question along the same lines is Casas vs Devers vs Dalbec. If all three hit, then they get split among 3B, 1B and DH. And do we really care who goes where?

I didn't really remember if Devers vs Dalbec was a thing but then saw in ranking history they were #2 and #5 respectively at one point, with Chavis at 11. So, maybe?
Xander vs Iglesias was fun from a philosophy perspective.

Don't forget "Coyle or Cecchini?"! I think we're talking about guys at the same position and the whole "who is the ____ of the future?" thing. Those two it was more of a who's the better prospect, but they didn't play the same position.

Man, I was really high on Cecchini. Not to derail the thread, but I remember when he gave a chunk of his signing bonus to charity. Man, I really wanted it to work with this guy.

Who's ready for some fun with small sample sizes and arbitrary endpoints?!?!?!
Just noticed Yorke is on a 6-game hit streak.
5/4-5/16: 6 for 40, 1 2B, 3 BB, 15 K (34.9%), .150/.209/.175 (first two series) 5/18-5/25: 7 for 25, 0 XBH, 3 BB, 4 K (13.8%), .280/.345/.280 (FXBG and last night)
Now...
Cons: Still no power; numbers likely goosed by playing the worst team in the minors Pros: A hit streak is a hit streak and his BABIP is .318 so he's not getting insanely lucky; walk and K rate adjustments are extremely encouraging
