Testing, 1, 2, 3 ... rocking the new laptop!
Rooting for Hauck to become the first rookie in history to give up no ER in their first three starts, all of 5+ IP.
And for us to lose anyway, of course. That the Braves panicked and warmed up their schedule starter for today doesn't help. The downgrade in name coolness from Huascar Ynoa to Tucker Davidson is a bummer, too.

Houck looking nasty to start this game, again.

I know Dalbec's underlying swing and miss numbers are really bad so far, but something about watching him work at bats I just feel like he'll be able to get those numbers under control, over time. Seems like he has a decent idea of what he wants to hit and has a pretty compact swing, so you hope continuing to get more MLB reps will help him (and hopefully he doesn't have a fatal flaw pitch like the Chavis high fastball).

He's been getting a lot of called strikes that are borderline. He hasn't looked over matched.

awesome sequence to Acuna Jr. Two nasty sliders low for swinging strikes, than a well-spotted high 94mph 4-seamer for the swinging K. How am I not supposed to get too excited for this kid?

Houck looks really impressive. Everything on the edges of the zone, 7 Ks through 3 IP

Sox wanted to "see what they have" with Dalbec and Houck and have to be super happy with the results. Dalbec should start at first next year and Houck should be penciled into the bottom of the starting rotation.

Awful start to the game. I mean I like Houck but this has been an awful day for the tank. Just awful. The Sox could potentially fall out of the top 5 by the end of the series.

why can't Devers hit a fastball; bad fastballs, even.

I thought we were now locked in to a 3-5 pick? Washington won the first game of their double header, I think only the O's and Tigers are jockeying with us for draft order.

I thought the Sox needed to win tonight or tomorrow Edit: did not see that the Nats won today. So yeah they have a top 5 pick.

Can't ask for a much more impressive three start debut. Way to go, Houck.

Catching up live after a long phone call ...
I always had this game down as a win (and last night as a loss). Tomorrow was always going to be the big one.
Meanwhile, I don't think you can search on the first 3 games of a career at Stathead (the old Play Index). But this has to be among the best.
17 6 2 1 9 21. Ans two of those walks (at least) were K's!

His 10th and final K of the night 👍 That was a great look at all three of his primary pitches. The slider, the two-seam and finishing him off with the four seam. Great sequence and an example of how his not so great four seam jumps of the hitters because they don't see it that often. Actually was the 2nd pitch a split finger ? It was only 82. Or did he take something off his 2S ?

I don’t think that second pitch was a 2-seam, it was 82. Could be a split like you say. Maybe a power curve?
Either way this kid rules

I don’t think that second pitch was a 2-seam, it was 82. Could be a split like you say. Maybe a power curve? I don't think he throws a curve. He does supposedly throw a change at times. The pitch did have the late screwball type fade which is characteristic of his 2S. Anyhow it was an example of how a pitcher can "blow away" a batter with a 92mph fastball if it is sequenced effectively and located.
