That is interesting.... Groome and Ward over Mata. Given the positive reports on the latter, I hope that is true. It would mean those two are very good. Ward seems like a guy whose name comes up less frequently than some other prospects, but his developmental arc makes him exciting. He seems to be getting better in pretty large bursts. Very high on Politi, ranked #57 on this site. His sleeper pick, "could make a jump this year, at least into [Sox] top 10 if not he global list"... "starter upside here"

Law has always been pretty low on Mata - he sees a lot of reliever risk, which is a fair criticism.

Mata at #7 if he thinks he's a reliever really isn't crazy. Groome at #4 doesn't feel like where he's at right now though. We're five years removed from him being a first rounder, he's gotta show me something to get back in that crew that's bunched together from 3 to 9. Groome aside, I can't take issue with Law putting Duran, Jimenez, and Ward ahead of Mata.

It still feels like he is the closest to a prototype 1-2 starter in the system, so I hope he can make a burst this season.

I'd very much like to see Ward for myself. That won't happen, but given his scouting report here the ranking is understandable. At least four pitches, three grading plus, lots of Ks, few BBs. Whoever made the decision to cast him as a starter knew what they were doing.

It feels like he thinks the floor for the curve is a 60 and that feels very optimistic.

On the podcast, Mike Rikard talked about Mears basically putting it out on the table that they take Ward on day 2. Same thing with Murphy.

I've always liked Murphy, Ward, Mata, and even Shugart. Hopefully two of them become everyday number four starters or better. Brock and Politi I saw as high end relief pitchers. I'm no expert though. Interesting year for the above plus Aldo Ramirez! Not to even mention the guys we've brought in with our trades.

I had wondered where I heard that name before- he was a member of the vaunted 2003 Detroit tigers pitching staff

13 Rays in Longenhagen's top 133 (5 in the top 25!). Absolutely insane how stacked that system is. Yankees second with 8 and Indians with 7.

But then I see that he puts Duran ahead of Jimenez. That would seem to indicate to me that he puts closeness to the ML ahead of upside. My other observation is that this list and the more universally vaunted and beloved SP list (shameless attempt to ingratiate myself with the mods ) both show that CB has done a great job of restocking the system from about No. 9 to about No. 20. But the top of the system remains a bit weak. Casas and Downs (who was, of course, a CB acquisition) seem to consistently show up in the 40s and we never have more than three in the top 100. Our top pick in the '21 draft will give us another top kid. But I was hoping for the acquisition of a big prospect this off-season. I'd love to know how much of the stuff we read last winter about the possible Myers trade was real.

Until you see that Fangraphs has the MFY with eight guys at 50 and six at 45 (https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-48-prospects-new-york-yankees/). I'm not blaming CB. It just shows what a depleted system he inherited. I don't have an ESPN subscription, so I can't see how many 50s they give the MFY.

NYY: 1 55, 3 50s, 3 45+s, and I think I count 7 45s.
Compare to Sox 2 50s, 3 45+s, 5 45s.

NYY: 1 55, 3 50s, 3 45+s, and I think I count 7 45s. Compare to Sox 2 50s, 3 45+s, 5 45s. Pick 4 should instantly give us another 50. One would think the likes of Leiter, Rocker and probably a few more like Lawlar and Fabian will instantly be 50-55. That saying there is now saying Sox end up with any of them. One would think though that the FO will go with the highest that they have ranked. Regardless of signing cost. They have biult some depth. It’s time to add to the top of the list. Hopefully the round 2 pick will be good aswell
