He was terrific in An Officer and a Gentleman. Kidding aside, they had room for maybe one more guy in Worcester. This gives them flexibility to deploy guys like Mazza and Weber in whatever role it looks like they will fit best in.
I don't know, do you think he can handle the truth?

Weber was much more effective as a reliever at the mlb level in 2020, but maybe AAA will stretch him out just in case he is needed as a starter.

Red Sox re-signed Jeremy Rivera. the Zack Kelly signing is now also official. Happy to see Rivera staying in the system. I'll always have a soft spot for those good glove/good teammate types that bring consistency to the system.

Feels like depth. Seems like he fits better repeating AA than on the AAA roster, but he's there if moves are made.

Wrong movie, fam. He signed with Boston because he had no where else to go! Will he be playing in Portland, up where he belongs?

Yeah, I would guess he's with Portland mostly, being the guy who goes up to Pawtucket if/when injuries demand another body since he can do the job defensively.

I guess getting stuck in the minors because Ben Cherington wildly overpaid him isn't the worst outcome - he made a hell of a lot more money than Daniel Nava, for example - but I still felt bad for him in 2017 and 2018 when he was clearly good enough to be in the majors. I still feel they compounded the original mistake by thinking he was MLB-ready off the bat instead of giving him a full year of minor league seasoning to adjust to everything.

I do feel bad for the guy being stuck there. He did also make more than three times as much money in his career as Jonny Gomes, who played in the majors for 13 years.

Call me callus, but $72.5 million to play in Pawtucket with zero pressure from Boston media or fans....sign me up. I will take that gig 100 times out of 100 !!

You gonna do this every signing? Every *other* signing. By March, likely every third as days get warmer.

But seriously, these are good deals... why not? This guy is a prime example of real peripheral-potential. Even though they need to do big things, I’m only kidding about this sort of move... it can be big if a guy like this becomes, say, the next Hembree.

You gonna do this every signing? Zac Grotz looked good in AA and AAA in 2019 ERA - 2.39 IN - 60.1 WHIP - 1.011 BB - 12 SO - 72 And only allowed 4 HRs.

Basically hasn't pitched since 2016. K then.
All I can find on him, from BA
Ranked Miami Marlins #30 prospect in 2016, 94-98 mph fastball, a hard 10-to-4 curveball and a change with good fade that flashes plus. He lacks consistent command of all three, however... "If and until Adames can develop feel for his secondary pitches, he profiles as a middle-inning reliever at best who can rely on premium velocity in short bursts."
2016 minor league R5 pick of the Reds.

He has been under contract with the Reds for the past few years. Just hasn't pitched.

In the ninth inning we got a chance to see Jose Adames take the mound for the Reds. He’s been with the Reds since December of 2016 when the organization selected him in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft. But he missed all of 2017, all of 2018, and nearly all of 2019 after undergoing TWO Tommy John surgeries. He pitched in instructional league in 2017 and was bringing the heat then, too. But he was injured again. He finally returned to the mound in the final week of the 2019 season – pitching in one game for the Arizona League Reds and three for the Billings Mustangs. Jose Adames is now 27-years-old and has been through some things. It’s great to see him get a chance, even if it’s in spring training, to get out on the mound to pitch for the big league club. And he did his part, picking up a save with a hitless inning that included a walk that was erased on a double play. Oh, and he hit 100 MPH today according to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic. That’s not surprising, as he was sitting 96-99 last year in his short period of time with the Billings Mustangs From February 2020 www.redsminorleagues.com/2020/02/24/jose-adames-hit-100-mph-cincinnat-reds-win-monday/
