2 things: 1. This start time is some bullshit 2. Rob Williams is a game time decision. That takes the air out of the last 3 weeks he’s just getting to 100% but he would play otherwise argument. You do realize it's a different injury right? Those comments were about his Knee, where he was a game time decision for like 5 straight games. His Turf toe caused him to leave during a game, so it's obviously an issue. Now you want to say you're worried about two injuries in a few weeks, that's a fair point.

Fair point - my concern with him is there’s way too often something hurt that’s limiting him

How do you judge a player defensively? When you play on good teams that value D or when he plays on crappy teams that don’t? Go look at Parkers numbers during that epic seven game series against us in the 2018 playoffs. Second best defensive rating on the team during those seven games. That means a lot more to me than his play on the Bulls and Hawks. It shows you what he can do when he plays hard and it's not one of the worst defenders in Basketball when he's a reserve player. Well that's the player I see right now watching him. He chased money on bad teams and he wasn't a fit. Yet he picked the perfect team fit wise and a coach that values D. He's playing for his career and it shows. He's playing so he can have the Celtics pick up a veteran minimum deal for next year. Exactly the type of player you want and perfect given our up coming cap issues. Jabari Parker in 2018: “They don’t pay players to play defense.” He was a bad defender before two ACL injuries, and now, he’s a statue. Can’t stay in front of guys, poor footwork, bad help defender instincts, not physical enough to bang inside. There’s more of an attempt at effort now, but it mostly comes off as activity for the sake of activity. He’s washing out of the league because, despite his obvious offensive skills, he can’t defend.

Inexplicable playing time for Semi here. What is Brad doing?

Getting shredded by Ish Smith is a real mark of shame. When Kemba can’t score off the dribble, his defensive liabilities get magnified.
Tristan Thompson is the definition of a JAG.
Say what you will about Smart, he at least makes his teammates better. Watching Tatum and Walker try to take their guy off the dribble (or after a cursory puck and roll) over and over again is infuriating.

A 23-11 second quarter - how very "this season Celtics" of them. Can't remember any recent Celtics team that consistently takes nearly entire quarters off. I know injuries, COVID, etc - but I keep coming back to Brad simply not being able to consistently motivate this particular team of players.

I hate how often Tatum complains to the refs or drops his head after missing a shot, giving the other team a fast break opportunity (or at least forcing them into a disadvantageous cross-match). It’s just giving away points.

Oh no, Rob Williams. That’s not his toe that’s the issue, Marv.

I'd start up the Offseason Thread as a reverse jinx but i'm not sure I want the season to continue at this point.

At this point, I would be very happy to give another coach a chance with this bunch (when they are all healthy). Sometimes you just need to move on - and I love Stephens as a person, and as a coach. As to who....no idea right now.

Marv Albert and Grant Hill is as bad of an announcer duo as it gets. They’re both positively horrible at what they do.

GREAT - now the Wizards are laying a quarter egg. Wish we had more assists, but gotta keep this lead.

Nesmith is a keeper. Wish he’d gotten more run earlier in the season but better late then never.
Tatum has some bad habits but he’s still a helluva player.

What has Grant Hill done to earn this role? He’s dreadful.

Pritchard with only 5 minutes? Curious rotation, but it seems to be working.
Tatum is going to go for 50 (at least). Wow

When Tatum drives the ball and earns a bunch of free throw attempts, good things happen.

What’s crazy about Tatum’s 50-point performance is he actually left a bunch of easy ones on the board.
Finish these clowns off and get some rest.

Oh, before I forget to mention it again, kudos to Brad for not emptying the bench at that timeout with 4 minutes left in the quarter. You know, when Brooks took Westbrook and Beal out of the game. We had 2 games in the season where the garbage time squad almost cost us the win.

When it comes to players with their size and offensive skill sets, there is Kevin Durant. And there is Jayson Tatum. That’s the list in that order.

Brad’s MO is play a rookie early, if he shows that he’s clueless, he buries him on the bench and makes him learn everything behind the scenes then plays him again later in the year. Nesmith, was a different guy when he came back because of all the studying and work in practice. I do wish he played a lot more early but perhaps the approach they took was the right one. Also, nice to have you back on the board.

When Tatum drives the ball and earns a bunch of free throw attempts, good things happen. That is something we all lamented on the board for a while, that he wasn't drawing fouls. Now that he has developed that this year he is taking one more step to being a top ten player in my mind soon to be top 5. This is going to be a lost year in terms of winning but not in developing for the future as far as I'm concerned when it comes to Brown and Tatum. A long offseason might not be bad for these guys, Brown obviously will need it, but as a team they need to regroup. They lacked practice time this year and never gelled on the court defensive or offensively, hence leading to too much ISO for Tatum, Brown and Kemba. A byproduct of that also is less intensity from Brown and Tatum on D as they expend their energy on O. That is the next lesson for those two to learn, bringing that level of D they used to play with before becoming the two top scoring options. Sad to see R Williams develop into a real player on the court but then not be able to stay healthy enough to stay out there. His and Kembas future health are major question marks moving forward obviously. They have found some good pieces for the future this year but those two are two big questions that need answers if they can't compete and the answers are not currently on the team.
