And the Mets-Nationals opener was postponed. Not off to a great start.

Not sure if anyone saw it (I didn't but it was described to me) but a strange play in the LAD game. Turner on 2nd and Bellinger hits a HR but only 1 run scores.
Turns out the outfielder got a glove on it but it bounced (off glove) into the stands. Turner thought he caught it so he goes back to not get doubled off but he passes Bellinger in the process. Cody gets called out but Turner scores. Wild.

Somehow, he should have been learned it was a HR, from the third base coach, the umpire, first base coach or even the batter, who was still near 1B at the time. But it was really a confusing (damned if you do/ damned if you don’t) kind of play.

Bard vs betts bases loaded two outs who you got??
Add: Bard makes him look foolish first two pitches and gets to him to line out.

And in glorious fashion!
It's a small sample, but of 201 hitters who played yesterday, rank in worst Win Probability Added:
2 Judge (hit into a bases-loaded inning-ending DP with the score tied in the 7th)
3 Stanton 7 LeMahieu 16 Urshela 21 Torres

It's not like Buttrey went to school or anything. What does he propose to do during his sit down strike? He made the pro rated amount last year of near MLB minimum and some on 2019, but is he expecting to live off of that? This seems as brainless as some of the IFA guys who pull this stunt, unless there are some underlying family issue/health of course driving it. Hope for his sake that if it's just a pouting situation over being optioned he gets over it, for his best interest. Angels are under no pressure to trade him if that's what he thinks and can let him sit in limbo as long as he wants/money holds out, or he feels like working at McDonalds.

Agreed....Big Mac please This seems like the least generous way of looking at this. Kid takes some time, which could be for *any reason* and you jump to “pouting” and slam, well, tons of people who work hard at low paying jobs. Don’t be a snob. But you know what? If any athlete says being in constant discomfort or pain, being on the road, missing family etc etc is not worth it, who are you to take shots at him? Maybe he has physical or mental health issues? How about this as a response: he is a gifted athlete who seems to be seeking something else, if only for the moment. I hope he is well, and I hope whatever he chooses it makes him happy.

Just in case some who may have skipped over that part of the post I wrote above and thought hadn't taken that into consideration. That said? Being a knucklehead/spoiled kid who is disappointed about getting sent down (should that be the case) is another matter.
As I am told quite often on this site.. It's not the 60's and 70's any longer. Family emergencies and health scares are not cause for being shut down without pay. Pouting, wanting time-out time more than likely are still, tho if the game continues to regress???

/photo/1 per Alex - "Always enjoyed my interactions with Ty Buttrey while he was coming up through the Red Sox system, and appreciated that most of our conversations were about our families. Good for him for deciding that that’s where he wants to focus his life moving forward."

Buttrey putting happiness first at this type of opportunity cost is pretty admirable IMO

In fun news, the Ohtani show is on full display. Throwing 100, hitting a homer. I really hope he stays healthy and puts together a brilliant, unique season.

They've already wasted the brilliant career of Mike Trout. Maybe this year they'll make the playoffs for the second time of Trout's career.

Speaking of bad starts to a season, the A's just dropped another game. 0-5 record, given up 8 or more runs in every game, and their schedule isn't letting up yet. Still have to play two more against the Dodgers and than another series to the Astros team that swept them.

In San Diego Tatis took a wild swing that ended with him on the ground writhing in pain. He was holding his left arm which had mild soreness during spring training. This looked anything but mild. It appeared that he ripped or tore something from the way his arm torqued behind his back still holding the twisting bat, but that is just my take. Add: My amateur diagnosis was wrong. It's a partial shoulder dislocation. He's had recurring shoulder problems and now this. He'll be evaluated to see if there's damage beyond the subluxation. No knowing how long he'll be out till that happens. www.mlb.com/news/fernando-tatis-jr-injured-on-strikeout
