All I know is i would have killed for a 3.72 FIP last year and that’s his career number (before tonight). We forget how valuable a merely slightly above average starting pitcher is that is fair, but so was the criticism on pvs outings. Criticism is fair yes, complete dismissal of his career and wanting to replace him immediately was not

Barnes is looking like a new man these days. The command is there

Barnes looked unhittable.

‘86 still wounds me so I am pretty thrilled with any win against the Mets. That was a fantastically enjoyable game to watch.

I really wanted this one and great pitching made it possible. Richaards so's Barnes clean 9th with a lot of confidence. Great win.
Now, not many hits tonight will there be any tomorrow?

The flip flopping is laughable on here. If Richards is all of a sudden a stud then kluber is in the hunt for the cy. Why are you so butthurt about a Sox player performing? Now he just needs to pitch that way for 20 more starts and we might have something. Or his era will be over 6 after his next start.

It was clear that command was the problem. Tonight it wasn't. He deserves some props for that. His velocity was up, too, I think. Mechanical adjustment was massive.

Linder.....is that the same guy who used to be an All-star in Cleveland? O’my he has a .593 OPS.....looks like he caught New Yorkitis from Sonny Grey. I know its early and I do think Lindor is a really good player right now but if I had to guess I'd say they regret that contract they gave him with many years still left on it.

Impressive stuff from Richards. I expect he’ll struggle with his command at times, but if he can trend more toward the guy from tonight than the guy from the last few starts, he’ll earn his 10 million. Hopefully he can string together a few solid outings.

There’s no way to easily quantitate this, but this team just wins the 50/50 games that no Sox team has in a few years. I agree with the 2014 comps where you’re waiting for regression that just doesn’t come. Hope I’m not wrong.

Brilliant adjustment by whoever’s ideas it was to simplify the delivery. Or maybe an obvious one? 7IP 1ER 10k 0BB guess I’ll stick with brilliant.

I agree, many expensive, long term contracts are regrettable: Crawford, Sandoval, Hanley, Rusney...... .....but yes it is still early.... Betts had a BA of .254 and OPS .792 (both very un-Betts) at the beginning of the day.

Hopefully he can string together a few solid outings. I live in SD, and Richards pitched like that here. I could have cared less as I am a Red Sox fan of 50 years, but this is more what I expected to see at least part of the time when the RS signed Richards. Once upon a time Richards was an ace (at least what lowly SD could call their top of the rotation).

Too bad everyone can't be as consistent as you. He's just doubling down. The more the Sox win, the dumber he looks. Richards appears to have found the command he's been looking to find. Hopefully it will stay since he's finally healthy.

Lindor career OPS is 829, good for a ss especially one that fields as well as him but not exactly elite. 10 years 341 mil is a lot to give to any player. He can't really afford much drop off from his career hitting numbers or that deal is going to look bad in a hurry.

Brilliant adjustment by whoever’s ideas it was to simplify the delivery. Or maybe an obvious one? 7IP 1ER 10k 0BB guess I’ll stick with brilliant. The thing that seems most promising is the adjustment was a simplification. He looked like he was doing something repeatable for the first time this year. Every other start he was like limbs akimbo. This was small, fluid movements. I give him credit for a dramatic change in one game. It is hard to remake your motion and stick to it in such short order.
