You'd have to be an IDIOT to suggest sending Bobby down and playing either Chavis or sign Pujols.

Gosh! Dalbec hit that one to the dark side of the moon. Wily Mo-esque bomb.

So, where have I been? I had to take a break (after banging heads with a certain member) - always have been reading here (even through the tough last season!). We moved - 4 hours west, to the NC mountains. COVID led to endless gardening Zooms (with no more travel). Now selling plants from my house, working on an on-line tomato gardening course with Joe Lamp'l, and trying to not be TOO pissed off at the Celtics (enjoying the Bruins)...and very happy with how the Red Sox season has begun. Missed you all, folks!

Nice eight pitch shut down inning for ERod. Be a good thing for him to go six. Pitch count is too high to go seven.

Well, I tell ya, gardening certainly helped get me through COVID in that we moved into this new area - but when COVID shut everything down, it meant a LOT of time here at home. Big back yard, fenced (makes our three dogs happy), on a dead end quiet road. Downsizing - (and retiring) - I highly recommend both! I am actually working on book 3 - but not yet (this fall? not feeling all that motivated at the moment - too many hikes to take around here!) We are in Hendersonville - about 20 miles south of Asheville - surrounded by microbreweries!!!

How about the bottom of the order!! Sparks, could lead to some fire. There are 50 homers just waiting to come off of Dalbec and Renfroes bats.

THAT'S the Dalbac we've heard tell of in these parts! The thing is, from 4/11 to 4/18 Dalbec had three games like this, in terms of high EV, with 7 of his 11 times making contact at 105.6 or better. He hit .412 / .444 / .647. But no one noticed because when you looked at his numbers, he was still hitting .237 / .293 / .342! And none of the 7 had left the yard; he went 5/7, 4 2B. There were 3 expected HR there, not 0, and he gets them with either the old ball or normal weather, and the whole perception of his season is different.
He was hitting in crap luck from 4/23 to 4/27 (when he homered for the first time), .167 / .231 / .417 when his expected line was .309 / .362 / .582.
He then was catastrophically bad for 8 games, beginning when he faced de Grom. His slumps are a lot more intense than the average guy, and that will hold his overall numbers down. But 8 games is not a long time to struggle before figuring it out. And his slump to start the season just lasted 3 games.
After tonight he'll be middle-of-the pack again for xwOBA at 1B.

Devers on a pace for 74 BB; his career high is 48. And he seems delighted every time it happens, like he gets that it's R E S P E C T. This is the one thing that was missing from his game, and it's big.

I’m irrationally annoyed with the schedule. This is the third series with Baltimore. The Yankees aren’t on the schedule until next month. This is like watching one of my kids eat. He will only eat one thing at a time on a plate of food. He can’t have some mashed potatoes and then green beans. He’s got to completely finish the potatoes first. Food and baseball are better when you have some variety. I protest this. The easy schedule to start the season was a gift for the Red Sox to find out what lineup works and to get Sale, Brasier, Santana, and maybe Duran before they play tougher competition like the Yankees. IMO I am very glad it worked out this way!!!

Omg Dalbec hit a HR. Lets go
I watched Nomadland with my girlfriend the delay and she hasn’t shut up about it since. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to watch a game again. She may never stop.
Thank me later Bobby.

27 pitches in 2 innings - maintained the 3 run lead. Nicely done (despite a few hits given up).

Man, Valdez has crazy stuff. He doesn't throw anything straight and he can put all of them on a dime.
