G'nite, all - just got on line - things seem to be well in hand.

Nice job to get through 7 innings. Not Richards' best results, but thought the stuff and command looked similarly improved since he simplified his windup.

I’ll take 7IP 4ER from Richards

Tonight Duran 3/5 with a HR, 2 singles, a walk, 3 runs scored. He is batting .300 on the season, and played RF tonight.
Jeter Downs 1/6 with 4 strikeouts.

I thought Duran's top end as an extra base man was kind of a Scott Podsednik-type of Of. I was not expecting HR blasts of 400+ feet.

Trying to understand the legit value of Brice and Taylor on this team, esp with one of them costing a bench player.

The Austin Brice experience is painful every time.

And Brice is on the roster because???

Is any lead truly safe with Brice?

Remy summed up Brice well... "not even competitive pitches"

I think we've seen the last of Austin Brice. Josh Taylor holds onto his job of mop up.

And Brice is on the roster because??? He is the “designated hitter”. He hit 3 batters tonight. Lol lol lol

I think we've seen the last of Austin Brice. Josh Taylor holds onto his job of mop up. Taylor will stay as he is the second lefty in the bullpen, but Brice is gone when Hernandez comes off the if not before.

Two things: X made a couple of all-star caliber plays at short. I though Chavis 'looked' different. Like maybe 10 lbs. lighter and more flexible. It was mentioned on-air later. So, while I'm not counting on him I hope for his sake he's got a new training approach that works well. Onward.

Sox got to do this, but in the past 5 games, they have faced 15 pitchers (obviously some repeat) with ERAs over 5.00 this season. In a way, it feels like the real season hasn’t started. Sox getting the Farmers and Lowthers, and the Yankees have played fewer games against the Os, only 2 against the Tigers, none against the Rangers. The schedule looks crazy difficult through almost ALL of June. They go:
HOU, NYY, HOU, TOR, ATL, KC, TB, NYY
The closest thing to a pushover in that whole stretch is KC, and they're not really a pushover! The rest are all potential playoff teams.
The good news is that they're 11-4 against good teams so far (or 8-3 if you don't count the Twins as "good"). In any event, June should be a telling month.

The Red Sox have played 34 games. The AL’s 4 worst teams are currently Detroit, Baltimore, LA Angels, and Minnesota. The Red Sox have played 15 of their 34 games against these teams, so it has been a nice way to work off the rust, get the confidence up, and prepare for tougher competition.

I think we've seen the last of Austin Brice. Josh Taylor holds onto his job of mop up. Brice is a placeholder. Taylor on the other hand has a distorted ERA compared to his fielding-independent numbers. His results gave gotten better and better as we've gotten further into the season reflecting that.

Hadn't really noticed, but you're right! FIP is down to 3.08, xFIP to 3.34. 10.80 K/9 and 3.86 BB/9. And if you throw out that cursed first series of the season with Baltimore the ERA is pretty much in line with the peripherals at 3.47. That'll play for the 5th or 6th guy out of the bullpen.

Yes, Taylor has pitched much better than his ERA, and the left handed alternatives in AAA are Matt Hall, Bobby Poyner, Kyle Hart, and Stephen Gonsalves (the last two are being used as starters). The best of the four IMO is Gonsalves.

The Red Sox have played 15 of their 34 games against these teams, so it has been a nice way to work off the rust, get the confidence up, and prepare for tougher competition. 19 of those games against Baltimore, Detroit, Texas, and Minnesota, 4 of the bottom 5 teams. I am not 100% convinced that Minnesota is a “bad” team, but still. The 17-15 Blue Jays are the best team they’ve played, and it was two games. I am not diminishing what they’ve done, cause they made hay... but as I said, it feels like the real season hasn’t actually begun.

A quibble: you're counting the Red Sox' own wins against the quality of their competition, which kind of makes the judgment circular - "the teams are bad because the Red Sox beat them." Not counting their record against the Red Sox the Rays are 18-14, the Mets are 14-11, the White Sox are 16-11, and the Blue Jays and Mariners are 16-14. There's every reason to think all those teams other than Seattle are as good as those records indicate.
