How did Franchy made it past little league? I look back at the initial reaction to the trade. I said on February 10 that Franchy “kinda sucks” and that did not go over well. I think it falls in the category of “predictable.”

One good thing is Marwin is playing pretty well. If Arroyo and/or Kiké are back soon, maybe they can move him to the bottom of the lineup and have him bolster the production down there.

If Pivetta makes his next start on time, then I feel comfortable saying the Red Sox pretty much cheated with that Bazardo appearance.

I was just looking at Franchy's "stats" - they make Ray Oyler or Tommy Dean look like Babe Ruth.
Take out his 3 for 5 game on May 6 and he is 0 for his last 35. He's had base hits in only 9 of his 29 games played. That isn't a hole in the line up - it is an abyss.

I can’t seem to find what the counter-move is for bringing Bazardo up. Anyone know? Pivetta to covid IL with vaccine side effects Thanks for the info. I'm on the West Coast, so I'm only getting the A's broadcast (and they didn't mention it).

2018 was magic under Cora (of course comparing this with that team is apples and oranges)....BUT....recent team play, mental errors, etc is reminding me just bit about what happened in 2019 when the team came in unprepared. Cora has to grab this team's attention again, somehow.

Everything about this game has been terrible lol The Sox have played like crapola at home the past few years. Perhaps they should just play all their games on the road.

I tuned into this game in the 5th inning and have witnessed five (5) maddening brain farts:
-Eduardo balking in a run -Ump calling a strike half a foot off the plate to JDM, altering that whole at bat -Marwin TOOTBLAN -Devers swinging at ball four that landed pretty much on his back foot -Xander TOOTBLAN

Renfroe-Cordero-Chavis. Who smells comeback? No, that's the popcorn I just popped! Watching the Celtics do another tank to a bad team (just using ESPN gamecast) - Stevens seems to have lost his team for sure.

Bright spots:
Bazardo
Marwin’s AB’s but not his base running
Renfroe’s arm
Hopefully we get a few more tomorrow

Is something wrong with Verdugo? He sat with back issues, and his last 15 games, he’s .259/.338/.345. He has not been so good of late.

Why is Cora still playing Cordero.
Maybe when Hernandez or Arroyo come back Cordero will head to Worchester.
The real headliner in the trade - Winckowski IN 6 - hits 2 - 1 run - 1 BB - 4 SO 1-0 0.96 ERA
In some ways I think Bloom is stockpiling as many starters, at every level, as he can!

He's had base hits in only 9 of his 29 games played. That isn't a hole in the line up - it is an abyss. His .397 OPS would be the worst amongst qualifiers in baseball by about 50 points. Some folks like to remind everyone how much they dislike Franchy after just about every one of his at bats, but I would find it hard to believe that they predicted a .400 OPS. If you thought he'd be so bad that he'd put up a .650 OPS, then you are just as wrong as you would be if he was putting up a .900 OPS.
Which is to say: whatever Franchy is as a player, we're not seeing it. It's inconceivable that he's really this bad; whatever mental and mechanical issues he has have him way off line from whatever his potential is as a player. Obviously, a month+ of terrible hitting should lower our baseline expectations by some amount, but there's still some degree of talent in there somewhere, and we just still don't know what it is.
But by the same token... for god's sake, send him to Worcester to figure it out. I guess he had that one good game with the two doubles, after which I said it would be interesting to see if he could build on it over the next week. Well, that was about a week ago...

This seems... untrue. Saying he is bad and having him be *really* bad is “righter” than saying he is bad and having him be good.

I just looked back at the thread. You were just saying his career stats suck. I think everybody would be feeling alright if he was playing up to his career stats. The projections that just look at his career stats thought he'd put up like a 700 OPS.
I don't see how you can take any kind of victory lap here.

But I — and others — thought starting Cordero was foolish. Honestly, I don’t know that there were any folks fully on the Franchy train, so it is not like faces are being rubbed, crow being eaten. But the strange thing about this season is for many guys we are seeing the worst case or a very bad case scenario... but the team is better than expected. As they enter tougher stretches, if they flounder, miscalculations like not having a real LF could be decisive.
