Cannon has smoked 2 balls so far, line drive single over SS and a smash off the top of the left field wall for a double

At what point do they remove Groome from the 40 man?

he also left after getting a liner off the foot The luck this kid has huh? I can’t immediately think of a prospect who has been more frustrating to follow than Groome. I’m sure there are a couple. To be clear I’m not frustrated with him. I’m frustrated for him. Between injuries and the season lost to COVID, what a mess his development has been. I was so incredibly hyped when he was drafted. I’m hoping he turns it around and proves that he’s a guy. It’s hard to be patient. A guy like this makes you appreciate a Benintendi, who spent a week and a half in the minors before making it to Boston.

At what point do they remove Groome from the 40 man? He's pitched 8 1/3 innings over four years, it might be sensible to see if he can shake some rust off?

I know he was a high pick who in the past had some good stuff but just as easily as it is to say he's thrown 8 1/3 innings over four years and maybe it's worth seeing if he can shake the rust off as reason to keep him on 40 man, I feel it could also be a reason to remove him. There's no 40 man crunch right now but if there is one soon he'd be one of the first I'd bump off the 40 man if need be.

Rough night for the affiliates outside of Worcester thus far
Jeremy Wu-Yelland looks to have had a decent night

Durbin Feltman with another good night. Clean inning with 2 Ks. Up to 9 strikeouts with out a walk to start the season.

I am glad he’s K’ing guys, but I’m more interested that he’s looking like the guy they hoped he’d be.

Based on the reports we have on Feltman's stuff - decent FB and slider - he sounds like the kind of guy who could be an impact BP add later in the season. This assumes, of course, that he has found something he was missing before. It's happened with plenty of RPs in the past.

Duran:
0/11, BB, 6 SO then
8/17, 3 HR, 2 BB, 5 SO
Season line up to .286 / .355 / .607.
Meanwhile, folks seem to have forgotten (or never noticed) that Marcus Wilson finished 2019 strong, after struggling initially at Portland (.161 / .307 / .226 in 74 PA) and being sent down to Salem (where he killed it). Hit .250 / .325 / .487 in 163 PA after his recall (versus league .238 / .311 / .366), then hit .333 / .412 / .467 in 34 PA in the AZFL (league was .235 / .320 / .354).
He's now at .286 / .400 / .667 in 25 PA (including 4 BB, 10 SO).
Wilson leads Duran in HR/Contact, .182 to .176. To put that into context, JDM went into today at .101.
So that's 222 PA at appropriate levels, age-wise, with above average numbers, for three different teams and leagues. Given his SA despite his K numbers in that stretch, his scouting report of "fringe-average in-game power" clearly needs some updating, and he seems to be low at #39; given his defense, he seems to have a solid chance as a 4th OFer.

I give credit for Wilson's turn around to Lance Zawadzki (now Portland's hitting coach), who was the hitting coach for Salem when Wilson was demoted. First game, he noticed something in his swing and suggested corrections. The impact was immediate. Why Lee May (who was Portland's hitting coach) didn't notice the whole time he was there is anybody's guess.
Wilson was the player we got for Swihart. Duran and Wilson have shared the same outfield at Salem, Portland, Pawtucket (Covid Camp) and now Wista. Maybe someday Boston.

Surprised to hear on Ian's Patreon comments on the game that Wilson looks stiff and based on yesterday profiles as LF only. Did I misunderstand? The site says "Above-average defensive center fielder. Should stick in center field, although could move to a corrner if he fills out. Solid overall instincts."

That doesn't surprise me much. Last year, he reported to the alt site very late and wasn't overly impressive on either side of the ball. I chocked it up to the late start but maybe he's filled out. He looked decent at Salem and Portland.
This is no skinny kid, he looked solid.

I went to opening night at Dunkin Donuts park to watch the first place Sea Dogs (tied with NY). I still can't write a report like Ian or Chris but can tell you a little more than the box score. I got a ticket to the free buffet on the party deck, first base side, so I don't have as much on German as I would like.
German was 94-96 consistently with the fastball. As you can tell by the box score, the defense was not a great help last night. After a bloop hit to right in the first and a walk, it looked like he would get out of the inning with a routine fly to center. I was going to try to describe what happened but RedSoxStats was kind enough to post the unusual play. In the 3rd, Golden turned on an inside 94 fastball taking it out to left. Two batters later, Bouchard hit a high hanging 85 change in the same direction. I thought the 86 mph slider looked good last night with a lot of break to it.
By the time Feltman took the mound in the 8th, the sellout crowd (half capacity) had dwindled down to less than 200. Durbin was 92-94 with his fastballs. In comparison, 4 of 5 Yard Goats pitchers hit 95 on the gun which was fairly accurate in 2019, running about 1 mph hot compared to the scouts guns. Two of the five breaking pitches found the dirt (83 curve 87 slider).
On defense, Baldwin dropped a waist high one hopper charging in from 3rd. Fitzgerald who had a tough night a short, was saved by Casas from another error with a jumping catch and tag of the runner. Meneses went back on a ball in the 6th but stopped on the warning track. The ball hit off the wall only a foot off the ground for a double. Pereda has a cannon behind the plate gunning down George trying to steal in the 8th, even with a good jump on the pitch.
Offensively, Castellanos smoked an 85 change on a line landing five rows deep over the short left field wall which is only 325 from home plate. Rosario's two singles were hit the opposite way to left, one cued off his bat down the 3rd base line. Fitzgerald looked good swinging the bat from the left side with a line rbi double in the right field corner in the fourth. He was caught rounding 3rd after Pereda's single up the middle on the next at bat to end the inning. The other hit was a hard grounder up the middle. He reached first on a strikout in the eighth when the ball popped out of the catchers mitt and rolled only a few feet away, then stole second. Portland looked like they would mount a comeback in a couple innings but double plays ended the threats.

Thanks for the recap, as a big Castellanos fan who wants the raw power to materialize I'm a little disappointed to hear the details on the home run (although a hard hit line drive isn't a bad thing).

I should have said at least a few words about Casas. Hartford employed a major league shift against him running the third baseman across the diamond between first and second. His hit was a soft liner the opposite way off Todd the lefty that fell well in front of the left fielder.
