His fielding isn't a plus either. At least not based on any of the reports I have read. Fielding is a skill. Range is a tool. He's also not a finished product. I'm pretty sure Scioscia knows that. Range is a combination of speed (a tool), and the ability to know where to go, which is partly natural (a tool), partly the result of experience (a skill)

Katie Morrison @katiemo61 · 17m Jarren Duran batting 2nd tonight for Team USA vs. Nicaragua which is in the 8th inning. Duran is 2-for-5 with a pair of singles

I couldn't find a box score, but read that Duran had a 2 RBI single.

Great news that Casas and Duran have made this team. I'm curious how you all perceive this experience to them just continuing playing and improving their skills at their current team.
For one thing, I can see the potential of them seeing different pitching and a different atmosphere. But part of me wants them to stay in Portland and Wooster, improve their numbers, and get promoted quickly. Not sure which is my preference.

i watched the game and the pitching they faced was slop. Im guessing they will see better against better teams.

Thanks. I imagine there are a lot of scouts attending.

Not sure if this hyperbolic quote has been posted:
The Athletic @theathletic · 4h MLB vet Todd Frazier praised his Team USA teammate — and Red Sox prospect — Jarren Duran.
"He’s gonna be a stud. I said (Trout) is going to be something, and I’m thinking the same thing about Duran."

They could use him right now, but seem to want to wait to bring him up. Hopefully another month is all we have to wait.

Have the US players in the qualifier committed to go to Tokyo?

Venezuela, by finishing top 3, qualified for the last qualifier, which I think is at the end of the month. I wonder if EDJ and Mosqueda will play then as well.

Have the US players in the qualifier committed to go to Tokyo? No. Have to think Duran will be in Boston by then. It would be nice if the Sox let Casas go to represent.

I would not be surprised if Duran is held back.
I also would not be surprised if the Red Sox held back any of their other players from going to Tokyo for safety reasons as well, if the Tokyo games go off. Letting guys go to West Palm for a week or two isn't quite the same as sending them to Tokyo to live in the Olympic Village for 2 or 3 weeks.

Unless Duran’s season goes in the tank, he should be elevated to the Sox roster by early July. He is the future. Not Marwin. Not Santana. Not Kikay As for others in the organization, if MLB says its property can go, the Sox will have a hard time denying that opportunity to anyone not needed by the big club during 2021.

Japan is in Covid crisis mode. I'm not so sure teams are going to be willing to risk their players.
