Madar rejected a 2-way deal and signed with Partizan Belgrade (3 yrs) in Serbia. Celtic's Blog citing team website. Good, he’s not ready Not only is he not ready, our guard rotation is fairly deep right now and I would rather him go play everyday for 1-2 years then come back and see what improvements he's made. Definitely has potential as a solid backup.

If you think Schroder starts along with Smart, which I do. I'm not so sure about that, as Pritchard with his great shooting could be that guy. Given how Smart, Schroder and Richardson can be so so shooters at times. Nevermind who starts at center, I wouldn't be surprised to see the first player off the bench be Horford or Williams. So for me he went from sure fire starter getting 30 minutes to much less. Heck at one point with the Dunn rumors I was thinking he might even play some PG. That's unlikely to happen now. So yeah compared to a week ago I see him buried on the depth chart, likely first time since his rookie year he doesn't get 30 minutes a night. I haven't even mentioned if Nesmith or Langford breakout either. I was certainly debating if you start Schroder and Richardson, letting Smart bomb away with the second unit. I can certainly see the value in that, yet that's not happening after you give Smart a huge long-term deal. Josh Richardson is a wing. He's NOT a ball handler, he's not going against Schröder for PT, he's going against Nesmith and Langford. After being acquired, it was pointed out by several of the local beat writers that, he played a decent amount of time as the primary ball handler (in Philly with Udoka as his assistant coach, fwiw). Basketball-Reference supports that with 25% of his minutes as the PG in that year (19-20). May not be his best role but it's one he's played.

There was a stretch a couple years ago where the heat were basically using him as a point guard and I thought he was pretty good

Not sure it ever was a possibility but Rozier returning (at least as a FA) is off the table. Shams reporting he is signing a 4/97M extension.

That's a big contract for a good-but-not-great player. Solidifies Charlotte as a playoff team and I suppose they don't have a lot else to spend their cap space on (never going to be a free agent destination), though.

A few scattered thoughts: Kris Dunn seems to have no trade value - i think we should prepare ourselves for that. He’s barely played in 2 years and didn’t look good when he did get back on the court last season. Schröder is in all likelihood a one and done Celtic. They have less chance to resign him than they did to have him fall into their laps. If he plays well, it’d be interesting to see how much they could get for him via trade at the deadline. Obviously, we hope the Celtics are playing well and we are eyeing a deep playoff push, BUT if they aren’t at the top of the conference with Brooklyn and whoever else then it really should be explored IF a team is willing to overpay. How do you figure they have less of a chance? I'm asking because I see the exact opposite, you have the ability to pay him more next year. I do struggle to see a path where they trade him, as I see the Celtics getting back to their winning ways as crazy important. Schroder is in his prime and he fits with Pritchard.

They can offer him a 20% raise which is roughly a $7m salary. Do you see a world in which he screws up his value that much a second time?

Don he can be a ball handler and I did go into crazy detail about how his path to minutes got a lot harder. Even you are saying he's competing against Langford and Nesmith for scrap minutes, neither got over 15 minutes last year. That's a huge change from a week ago when he was the likely starter, before Schroder I would have bet he was a lock for 30 plus minutes a night. How many minutes do you see him getting now?

They can also offer him full mid-level or dump Horford to create cap space to pay him that way. Now you can certainly debate if you should go extreme for Schroder, yet the option is there.

You guys are correct about him playing as a ball handler, I guess he can play 1-3. I still think he's either a starter or the sixth man.

Trying to find that small ball 5 that is likely available for what we'd have to offer is haaaard. Not sure there is anyone they could acquire that would be better than a combination of Grant and Jabari (actually surprised Grant wasn't logged as having more minutes at the 5 but, admittedly, I didn't watch a ton last year). Otherwise, you're looking at guys like Kevon Looney (not sure why GS would trade him for what we have to offer), Anderson (even more so), maybe Eric Paschall (is he better than what we have)? Might just have to roll with what we have. The most realistic and easy to get might just be Marquese Chriss. He really broke out towards the end of 2020, yet basically missed all of last year with an injury. He's just a free agent. The Grizz just picked up Juan Hemangomez who you could likely get, yet you likely don't want a his extra year. Just had to mention him, he's had some big games when he's on.

Forgot about Chriss. I like that idea.

Isn't Timelord sort of a small ball 5? He can't shoot but neither can Chriss.

With Williams, Horford and Kanter on the roster, is there playing time for another 5? What they really need is a better backup 4. I like Grant Williams but he’s going to need to improve his shooting if he wants to carve out a long NBA career.

Backup 4 who can play small ball 5 (or, in the new terminology, a more versatile/athletic big). EDIT - I would also add that I'm very curious how many nights Ime will have all 3 of those guys available to him.

Robert Williams in Theory could be that guy. Heck he likely will be that guy in time, I'm not sure he's ready to do that now.
Brandon Clarke is my perfect target.
Now this is certainly talking about improving on the margins. Yet isn't Chriss with his athletic ability and wingspan at 240 pounds a guy that fits guarding Giannis or say guys like Zion? Go look at what he did in his last 20 games. Now maybe this is dead wrong, yet I clearly remember he was known as a shooter coming out, so I’m assuming he's got upside.

He’s got a relatively soft touch for a big, it hasn’t materialized at the NBA level but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he could turn turn into a 33-36% 3 point shooter (I’m talking about Chriss)

Slightly on the higher side of what I was thinking, yet a steal compared to what Allen just got.

Nice deal. Now he just has to stay healthy.

I just have to ask, why so much talk about Robert Williams and not Smart with regards to health? I mean Robert Williams just played in more games than Smart did. Smart has played seven years, only two healthy seasons. Similar type players that play all out, so they will get injured more.

It’s a semi fair question but Smart has played more games in 6 of his 7 years than Williams has in his best year and Williams best year he played a lot more then in his other 2. Also, Smsrt has at least made it thru a full season something Williams has not done yet. That being said, neither are iron men and their injuries are concerns or should be.

Smart's injury history includes:
- missing 10G in 19/20 bc he of an injury to his eye - missing 10G in 17/18 bc of a hand laceration - missing 17G in 17/18 partly bc of illness (following his oblique issue).
On the one hand, it's a product of his intensity (on and off the court), they don't make you concerned about a chronic injury (pattern of behavior, maybe?)
Williams injuries include those to back/hip/knee/feet. That just scares me with bigs, especially those that excel with their athleticism.
