He looks good. Maybe a little more athleticism to his build from what I recall last spring when he looked like a guy who shed some pounds but didn’t have much definition

Blaze has been impressing on multiple levels in FL according to director of player development Brian Abraham ( courtesy of the Athletic):

As Ian said on the pod that dropped today, Jordan was on the short list of guys who impressed at XST that we got from one scout along with Bonaci, Lopez, and Liu.

Thread needs a better title by the way. In the meantime...catch up on some old footage:

Starting a Blaze thread to show this footage. That's a very quick bat. I know it's not the majors, but he takes a hard outside breaking ball and pulls it to left center for a home run. The "new" video shows more of that lightning swing. Had not seen any of this before. I'm impressed.

That seems a touch aggressive Mr. Caballero, but we applaud your enthusiasm and will be running your suggestions by the brass shortly.

Blaze Jordan, of Glory
I'd say better than even money that "[Blaze of] Glory" ends up as his nickname, if he keep hitting like this.

Really hope he develops a good approach to take the ball to straight away center by the time he gets to Fenway

I apolgize if this has been answered elsewhere, but does anyone know why Jordan hasn't been playing?

Nobody has said anything, but catching COVID would seem to be consistent with all the available facts.

FYI, I think that last statement is referring to the fact that Torkelson is the only top 100 prospect with a 70 power grade, not that Jordan is the only player on the website with a 70.

I feel like Blaze deserves more love, especially lately. Has a .774 OPS as a 19 year old in a power suppressing park (before the 2 dingers today). Only 42 strike outs in 243 playe appearances too. Pretty encouraging for a kid that supposedly has 70 grade power. Kind of feels like he won't be appreciated till je gets out of Salem.

I get the impression some people have just copped an attitude towards him. Dug in deep. And won't let go. In the end it does not matter. He will either make it or not and "I'm right" commitments won't have a thing to do with it as he is getting a full opportunity to show what he's got.

I also think it's in part due to getting off to such a bad start in April that his overall stats and first-impression bias is letting him go under the radar. He's been very strong in May and June. .323/.358/.515 in May. .383/.441/.633 in June.

The current knock on him is he hits almost everything to the opposite field and people would like to see him pull the ball more. Do people want to see him trying to pull everything and rolling over? Isn't it generally seen as a good thing when a player is not selling out to pull? I gather the thought is he's late and can't catch up with a quality FB???

I actually follow Blaze quite closely on SP.com and have been encouraged by his recent spurt. As Patford said, it's a good thing when a player goes oppo, as long as it doesn't indicate a slow bat or slow pitch recognition.
I'd like to see the BB rate a little higher and we have to note that this year's numbers include a .337 BABIP.

True, though I also think BABIP numbers in the low minors can be artificially high because the fielders aren't great and the fields probably aren't in as good a condition as ML fields.

I haven’t really seen anybody dug in on him in a negative way at all, I think that’s entirely fictitious
There’s not a supreme amount of prospect hype around him but I think everybody is encouraged by how his first season in full season ball is going.
He’s starting to pull some homers so that’s a welcome sight to see- all fields power is a fun thing
With his defensive profile he will have to hit the entire way up but safe to say things are off to a promising start

BIP stats in the minors, particularly LD vs FB, aren't very reliable given they're reliant on the scorer's input (I at least presume they still are at this point). Consider that the top 6 LD% leaders in the system (min 50 AB) are in Salem, and 12 of the top 19 (I'm counting Vaughan despite some of his at-bats coming post-demotion). I think it's very likely their scorer is overly generous calling balls in the air line drives instead of fly balls.
