Bello starting in AA, someone’s going to be stalking that box score today. I haven't seen that it's official anywhere. But seeing how the 'Dogs used DeJesus, Reyes, and Kent last night, I'm not sure who else could reasonably start.

Bello starting in AA, someone’s going to be stalking that box score today. I hope so, I will be there in right field dodging Casas homeruns.

I was hoping he might pitch tomorrow instead (when I'll be there). Wondering what the situation is with Crawford--I see the Transactions page here specifies that he's on the COVID-19 Related IL. Not sure of the rules if it's an exposure situation rather than a positive test. (Portland still lists tomorrow as TBD when it would seem reasonable to think it's Politi otherwise.)

I put it on the injury thread (I think?) but it was made extremely clear to me that like the MLB list in that it could be a number of things.

Jimenez starting in RF again in the 1st game of the doubleheader. He has been playing less and less CF lately in favor of Rafaela.

Brayan Bello leaves after 4.0 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K.
He left with no one out in the 5th with runners on 1st and 2nd.
Edit: Runner on 2nd scored after a walk and a sac fly. 1 ER allowed in 4.0+ IP. 78 pitches, 46 strikes.

Nice debut for Grant Gambrell, as well.
5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K.
The one hit allowed was a HR to Lenyn Sosa, a Top 25 White Sox prospect.
1-1 in the 7th inning.

Mostly fastball to start before bringing in breaking balls in 2nd. In fifth fastball dropped a little and the accuracy was gone. Seemed tired. Not a lot of strong contact against. One hit was ground ball to short and one was a missed diving catch turned double. Not a scout by any means and from right field, but overall solid performance moving up a level against a lineup that included top prospect as already noted.

Creeping up to the Mendoza line

Cole Brannen sighting (HR #2 of the season) Creeping up to the Mendoza line An inside-the-park HR I believe. EDIT - Solid contact though. EDIT2 - Cole has a serious mountain man beard now. I guess it's a typical Covid look.

I guess it's a typical Covid look. It was definitely well struck but I'm curious about the throw in to third (the camera work didn't show it). Watching the highlight through where the CF throws it it, it felt like a double, then all of a sudden he was rounding 3B with the ball nowhere to be seen. It still looked like a good throw home would've had him too, but I get calling it a HR at that point. OTOH, Franchy just hit a ball that landed in Canada.

Question for the board which probably belongs in a separate thread but figured I would fire away after seeing low strike out totals for Bello and Grambell.
I used to use a strikeout per inning as a good barometer for minor league pitchers. With the strikeouts way up over baseball the past few years, is one strikeout per inning still considered a good number for minor leaguers?
How many guys recently that come to mind that have great starts to their major league careers that had an 8.0 K/9 in the minors.

One strikeout per inning is actually far below average in the low minors now. There's going to be a lot of fool's gold stat lines put up by pitchers this year.

How many guys recently that come to mind that have great starts to their major league careers that had an 8.0 K/9 in the minors. I mean, if you're talking about a single start I'd say you're worrying about it too much. Over the course of a season then sure you want to see a guy missing bats. Here's the system ranked by K/9 (10 IP min): www.soxprospects.com/stats/pitching.php?split=0&page=1&sortby=K9&team=0&year=2021&type=2&min=10And the perhaps better number (considering using IP as a denominator almost rewards guys for facing more hitters and getting more chances to record K's in an inning), but the one for which I can't really tell you a good benchmark, K%: www.soxprospects.com/stats/pitching.php?split=0&page=1&sortby=KPA&team=0&year=2021&type=3&min=10I'll say that looking at K/9 in context with other numbers, such as BB/9 and HR allowed, is a good place to start when looking at a larger sample. Like Zack Kelly is leading the system in K/9 and K% but he's also walking way too many guys, while Stephen Gonsalves is doing the same while also giving up home runs at too high a rate. ------- Speaking of Gonsalves, after he had his second "start" in which an opener was used, the WooSox used an opener for Hart tonight as well. It's interesting, and makes me wonder if they're thinking those guys' best use in MLB as depth would be with an opener, so they might as well get them used to it (and get some of their relievers like Schreiber, who's done it twice now, used to opening).

Jimenez starting in RF again in the 1st game of the doubleheader. He has been playing less and less CF lately in favor of Rafaela. It's actually been going that way for a while, basically since Decker went down on 5/21: www.soxprospects.com/stats/lineup.php?team=414&year=2021Salem's played 18 games since then and the CF starts have gone Rafaela 13, Jimenez 6, with Rafaela getting 3 starts at 3B and Jimenez getting 4 in RF and 3 in LF. Rafaela also started the game before on the 20th (and Dalton got the start in CF on the 21st), so it admittedly might not even have been related to Decker (although RF opening up may have helped). Rafaela was in CF in the game I caught and he made a couple nice plays - I liked him out there. Meanwhile, Greenville's CF spot has been kind of a mess, with Tyler Esplin (definitely not a CF) getting most of the reps there this month with both Brannen and Bandy not hitting enough to justify starting them (with Dearden and Granberg the primary guys on either side of him given Reed's breakout until the former got hurt). You've gotta think the team would love for Jimenez to push his way to Greenville. And by the way, he's been pretty bad of late, sort of but not really coinciding when he sat out May 27-29: 5/4-5/21: 15 G, 66 PA, .390/.446/.475, 3 BB, 6 K, 3 HBP, 4/4 SB/SBA 5/22-6/10: 13 G, 62 PA, .164/.177/.246, 1 BB, 20 K, 0/2 SB/SBA The sudden spike in K's and the sudden change in SB effectiveness makes me think he's gotta be playing through something?

There would be a place in MLB for Franchy if there was something like a 3 point shot. Say 2 runs for balls hit 600 ft.

That's what really matters.
