Looks like arroyo might be done for a while An IL stint would clear a roster spot for Franchy.
So Santana lives, likely. Maybe he breaks out while Aroyo is on the IL and establishes trade value.

Dropping a game to a substandard team is baseball. Dropping a series to a substandard team is unacceptable.
Friday's idiocies loom large right now.

Meanwhile, watch, they'll call up Chavis instead.

The news on Arroyo is positive, seems like he’ll be fine according to Cora. Bullet dodged

Arroyo is just a bone bruise, nothing structural, which certainly sound like day-to-day.
They can't play Tampa with a bench consisting of Santana or Marwin, plus Plawecki or whomever. And Franchy should be a big offensive upgrade over Santana / Marwin.
Franchy up, Rios down. They should be able to make do with 13 pitchers until Arroyo is ready (mid-Yankees series?). Valdez can come up on the 25th, in time for the Yankees opener.

SEA just walked it off against the Rays with a grand slam, so Sox still in first for the time being.

As someone here said, they don’t want to lose a year of controllable MLB service time, so maybe he is called up sometime in July. He can be called up now and not lose a year of service time. That is the super two argument, and we since determined that the likely date to avoid super two status happened weeks ago. That is the date when 22% of rookie callups for the year happens, and in most years it is around 120-140 days left in the season. The shortest recently was 115 days--or June 5. It is time.

Poor effort this weekend for the Sox. Thankfully, Tampa was worse.

Poor effort this weekend for the Sox. Thankfully, Tampa was worse. They did play terribly against KC. They've been road warriors but were terrible against KC and Texas of all teams. It's like they did everything they could do to hang in for those 17 games in 17 straight days. Then they exhaled and lost their edge. The starting pitching has remained terrible. Nobody has really been immune to it. I don't know if it's the not using the sticky substances or maybe they're now hitting a wall given that last year was a 60 game season and they're going beyond it. But it's hard to win when the starting pitching is that bad. I hated that with the day off that Cora turned to a career minor leaguer in Rios to keep the game close. Wish he would have chased the win yesterday. What's also tough is the situational hitting. Seems like if they don't hit HRs they struggle to score, which is the story of MLB this year, but they've been really bad at cashing in the runner on 3b less than 2 out situations, although they have gotten their share of clutch two out hits. The one bright spot is that Dalbec looks better. The choking up on the bat thing has helped him, so we'll see if it helps when they throw breaking pitches to him now that he's timing the fastball better. I think they still need to bring in a LH 1b bat just in case, but we'll see. I think this team needs Duran quite soon. While I'm not sure he'll be much better than what they have, I think they need to see if he can provide a spark for the offense. This team needs a guy who can get on base consistently and be an asset atop the lineup. He would also take ABs away from Kiké Hernandez against righties and hopefully soon Marwin Gonzalez will play less. They really need less Marwin Gonzalez. They can eliminate some of the holes in the lineup. Now I worry that the Rays have been so bad that they're due to turn it around and the Yankees are heating up. The fact that they're going home to Fenway doesn't exactly make me feel better as for some reason they're not that great at Fenway. The Sox have been playing poorly for awhile but have had enough comebacks to make it look highly respectable. I'm hoping that they bring their A games this week. They'll need it or else they'll have the Rays ahead of them and the Yankees right on their tail. But if they do bring those A games, then the Sox can actually put some distance between these teams. Taking 2 of 3 for each series would be huge.

Taking 2 of 3 for each series would be huge. Pitching was bad, but the defense didn't do them any favors to be fair. Also agree that Cora flew the white flag too early in both Friday (Andriese) and Sunday (Rios). I would have like to have seen a historically more effective reliever come out of the pen in both of those games when we were only 2 runs down with plenty of innings left to mount a comeback. Especially considering we had an off day before the start of the series, and an off day today.

The good news is that the guys we have been able to count on in the pen have been rested and maybe that was needed. Many were worried Cora was going to over work the pen so maybe this will end up being a good thing, especially this week. As always I am looking for silver linings.

The Rays have lost 6 straight, including 4 walk-offs. They have eight walk-off losses on the season.
Other good teams:
7 SFG
6 CHW, NYM 5 ATL
4 NYY, PHI, LAD
3 TOR, HOU, CHC, SDP
2 CLE, SEA, WSN
1 BOS, LAA, MIL, CIN
0 OAK, STL
