Aldo Ramirez for Raimel Tapia What's the point? They're going to call up Duran soon. They don't need to trade a legit prospect for a guy who's not needed when they have another prospect tearing up AAA ready to come up. They don't need to mess up their farm system for this year's team.

Is Duran really ready? Or is he a product of the band box that he plays in down there.
Watching fraunchy murder the ball, makes me think it is more about the hitter friendly stadium than duran’s actual hit tool.

Watching fraunchy murder the ball, makes me think it is more about the hitter friendly stadium than duran’s actual hit tool. Then no guy playing well in AAA should ever be considered if we're going by that logic. They wanted to see if he could hit well and not sacrifice his hit tool while hitting for power and he is doing that. It's only a matter of time before he is up. They're not sacrificing talent for an outfielder. These trade proposals are silly.

They don't need to mess up their farm system for this year's team. I’ve read everything everybody’s written & I still think Tapia would be a perfect fit for the team, this year & the next 3. He is under control for the next 3 yrs (arb eligible) is only 27 yrs old, is a proven MLB Outfielder who plays all 3 OF spots. Kiki is a bench/role player utility type, Renfroe has 2 arb yrs left, Cordero is an unknown, Marwin is only signed through this year, Duran looks to be on his way but I would expect some struggles & adjustments, Jimenez is a few yrs away. Going into next year with Verdugo, Renfroe, Duran, Tapia, Kiki & Cordero looks good to me, not to mention what Tapia could bring to the team for this years run at a division title & hopefully more. Can he bat lead off? I think he could. And I don’t believe my suggestion of trading Aldo Ramirez for him will “mess up the farm system”

The overarching point I'm making is that if Bloom has a viable in-house solution he isn't going to deplete his farm system depth. The Sox are going to call Duran up soon so why do they need to get another outfielder? 1b is a different story. They really don't have a major league ready 1b who can hit from the left side, so that is an area that makes sense for them to upgrade from outside the organization.

They're not going to block him from getting atbats. Bloom has said when Duran gets called up, it's with the intent that he's up for good. They're not going to have him smack 25 homers in Pawtucket and just let his season play out without utilizing him. Verdugo and Renfroe are have the corner outfield spots locked up. Should Duran struggle at times or need adjustments, they have Kiké Hernandez to take tough ABs against lefties, but once Duran is called up Hernandez will shift to 2b, that is when Arroyo isn't playing 2b.

That’s why he won’t be up until September. Sounds to me like you’re expecting quite a bit from Duran & real soon. I just don’t see it that way. And I don’t think Bloom & the Sox see it that way. But I certainly hope you’re right, it’d be very exciting.

But I certainly hope you’re right, it’d be very exciting. I think they'll call him up around Aug 1st although it could be a little after the all-star break. I can see Duran hitting around .240 - .260 with some good thump - I know Polar Park has is a HR park but I think those shots he's hitting are out in any ballpark. I can see him providing some thump and definitely some needed speed atop of a lineup (Cora loves guys who can motor from 1st to 3rd on a single) that needs a leadoff hitter. His OBP is .360 something, so perhaps he can provide .320, which would be a big improvement on what they have now in the leadoff spot, which is an area of need.

I'm curious, What's with the Tapia's fascination? He's a mediocre ball player.

Dude, yes. 4 Suspects for a Major Leaguer I'm all for people throwing out trade ideas as it's an interesting thought process for me but that one takes 0 thought to say no thanks. By your metric let's trade Duran for a middle reliever and Casas for a bench player because hey they're "suspects" and we can get a "major league player"

Three top ten prospects and a top trade chip for one below league average player. Dude, no. Dude, yes. 4 Suspects for a Major Leaguer That’s not how any of this works. Not all prospects are equal. If you can make that trade with guys way down the list, then maybe. But that would be the most ridiculous overpay that I’ve ever seen. Ryan McMahon has never had a full season with an OPS+ over 100. Even now in his best year, it’s only 104. Also, his home/away splits aren’t great (he’s from Colorado).

I'm always leery of any Colorado hitters and he's no different. Also a player can be everything we're looking and at the same time not a player we want for a package of 3 top 10 prospects.

McMahon has a .288 OBP away from Coors field, I'd hesitate giving Colorado even one of those top 3 guys you mentioned, and if I did wouldn't feel the need to throw in anything (Wilson).

I think you’re overvaluing what 3 top 10 prospects from the Red Sox Organization really are. It’s not like I’m suggesting trading “The Top 3 Prospects”

Brayan Bello, Jay Groome, Gilberto Jimenez & Marcus Wilson for Ryan McMahon I'm so glad you're not our GM. You'd thin out and destroy the farm system over time - for mediocre ballplayers. The Red Sox don't need to act as desperately as you apparently think they do. Stop looking at trading their good prospects for guys who aren't that good - I really don't get why you think giving up one or two guys who have a legit shot at making the rotation (and have the possibility of being good, young, and cheap) in a couple of years along with a guy the Sox are high on in CF who has speed, defense, and a good hit tool and Wilson for a guy who doesn't upgrade 2b or 1b to the point it's worth giving up all of that. Think of trades in which the Sox give up potential 40 man roster crunch guys. That's most likely what Bloom is doing. Of those guys only Marcus Wilson is likely to be traded.

It’s not like I’m suggesting trading “The Top 3 Prospects” To each their own, I'd say you are undervaluing each of those 3 guys and overvaluing McMahon but that's why this is a message board to discuss things. Not trying to pile on you but I'll just leave it as we'll agree to disagree on this one.

On top of it being a massive overpay, despite our apparent disagreement on that fact, it also goes against everything Chaim Bloom has done to build this farm system. Bloom builds depth. He doesn’t ravage the system with Dombrowski-like 4-for-1 trades. Especially not two top ten pitching prospects with a chance to be young, controllable starters (the most valuable commodity in the game), a potential top of the lineup table setter, and a decent trade chip all for a mediocre player. That’s not the type of trade Bloom would ever make. Nor should he.
