I’d give Santana more time, he was looking really good for a week before last nights 0-5er. I’m all for the short leash at this point, but if he showed signs of turning it around that leash is bigger than 1 game.
Last night sucked, but even a 100 win team losses 40% of the time. If they come back tonight and win the game they win the series. Any time you take 2/3 from a team, especially a team with a winning record you can chalk it up to success.
We need Pivetta to have a good game

Hernandez 8 Verdugo 9 Martinez DH Devers 5 Vazquez 2 Gonzalez 6 Santana 7 Dalbec 3 Chavis 4
Now THATS a John Farrell Sunday classic
Hopefully Pivetta can give them some length

Surprised to see Vasquez. He caught 12 innings in a game that ended at 9 pm local time so almost a night game. Renfroe looked like he had a tired bat, so seeing him rest is not a surprise. I guess the Bogie rest is a rotational thing. He was solid last night. Santana, despite having one hot week, also made messes recently in the outfield and at first base, but with both Bogie and Renfroe sitting, Danny gets one more chance before he is DFA'ed in favor of Arroyo.
A Farrell special, indeed.

I prefer to think of it as faith in Pivetta. When he’s on, he’s dominant. The A’s don’t look like a powerhouse offense. They can win a lower scoring game, get some guys some rest.

Gerrit Cole having another lousy start is a tasty appetizer.

Gerrit Cole having another lousy start is a tasty appetizer. Yeah. 80 pitches in 3.1 innings...sweet.. Loaisiga in for the 4th & 5th (26 pitches) so the Yanks are giving it all to win this one.

Well, I guess we need our run through the order to figure this pitcher out.

OK, I'll keep talking to myself. Pivetta spinning a gem. We are starting to chip away a bit - calling Red Sox bats! Time to wake up!

Another Chapman collapse. Lasted only 15 pitches, gave up 3 runs, including a game tying solo homer. Bullpen tried to bail him out. Tried. Mets now lead 10-5 in 7th.

Is Cole a big sticky stuff guy? That would be awesome if he was.

Is Cole a big sticky stuff guy? That would be awesome if he was. SI had a feature piece -- Cole was prominent.

Better sequencing for him than last time at least! (But all three runners scored anyway.)
His ERA is up to 4.71.

I know this is a Sox game thread, so sorry, but I so revel in the Yankee announcers' 'chagrin'... Now let's reward Pivetta!

Hit it hard, but right at the second baseman. Still an RBI.

The vagrancies of MLB scoring still elude me.
Not only is Pivetta dealing, he’s giving them much-needed innings.
