The article is a Pirates beat writer asking Jim Bowden what he thinks of trade proposals. Bowden even says that the deal wouldn't make any sense for the Red Sox.

Adam Frazier would be a good trade target if the price is geared to his lifetime stats of .282 .346 .421 .767 and not his 2021 stats with the OPS 90 points higher. A .346 in the leadoff spot with a LH bat would be nice.

This team has me believing! How bout a go for it trade with the Cubs? Bring back Rizzo and Kimbrel. According to the baseballtradevalues site giving up Dalbec, Groome, Potts and Rosario lines up almost exactly even in terms of value. A backend of the pen made up of Kimbrel, Barnes, Ottovino and Taylor is down right nasty! Adding Rizzo to the 6th spot in the order (with X and Raffy flip flopping to separate the LHH) is pretty imposing too. It would definitely hurt to give up Dalbec and Groome, but they could sign a stop gap at 1B next year while they wait for Casas and you could make an argument they're selling high on Groome. Probably a pipe dream but....

Both Rizzo and Kimbrel are upcoming free agents so I don't think he would give up that much talent for two rentals, as ideal as they would be. Not sure how Bloom accomplishes his goal without having to give up substantial talent. Of course that didn't stop me from having the same visions you were having.

Brad Miller would be a prime aquisition candidate. I think his price just went up.

I saw those Bloom quotes too, and obviously that's the dream scenario, but with this trade you could at least argue that it doesn't hurt next year's team too much. That's only if you believe Casas could be up by mid season next year, but I can talk myself into it. Also. I think Kimbrel has a 16 mil option for 2022 and Bloom might believe that gives him more flexibility than a new 3 or 4 year contract for Barnes? I'm probably way off, but that would be some team!

Tomase discusses Rule 5 people and the trade deadline "Tomase: Why Chaim Bloom needs to trade prospects before deadline" "Here's just a partial list of players who fit that criteria [needing to be added]: Bello, Downs, Gilberto Jimenez, Winckowski, Feltman, Duran, Frank German, Thad Ward, Andrew Politi." I definitely expect Bloom to look into dealing some of the current bottom end 40 man guys and anyone on the bubble in terms of adding them to the 40 or risk losing them in the rule 5.

Assuming Houck is called up, and Richards is bumped to the bullpen when Sale returns, they've replaced Andriese, Rios and Workman with two pitchers that can throw multiple innings. IMO, a LH 1B to platoon with Dalbec is a necessity, whether it be Franchy or one that is dealt for. If they stick with the 14th pitcher, Marwin is the LH option at 1B. Marwin is not a LH option at 1B.
I guess it seems more obvious for Dalbec, since when he hits LHP they stay hit, but Marwin is just as much a candidate to play only vs. LHP (maybe he should try only batting righty instead of switch-hitting).
OPS vs. RHP/LHP Dalbec - .603/.831 Marwin - .504/.801

Pretty silly that some still hold a grudge -- even Billy Buck was forgiven...

My main goals of the trade deadline are for Bloom to get something for our non-useful 40-man extra, and for other teams to trade for good second basemen or shortstops willing to play 2b so they cannot get qualifying offers so we can sign someone for next year without losing a pick.

Adam Frazier was named to the All-Star team, so he's pretty much off the trade market.
Brad Miller seems to fit the Sox' needs (and M.O.) perfectly, with position versatility and an OPS split of .859/.693 vs. R/L. And I doubt his 3-homer game in Wrigley last week is going to affect his asking price at the end of the month. [N.B. Miller has played 11 games at 1B for the Phillies this year.]
Mitchie Two Bags would be a nice option as well, if he's healthy. No reason to think A's GM David Forst (or Executive VP of Baseball Ops Billy Beane) would deny him a trade to a team that would play him more, particularly with his history in Boston.
Neither of those guys should break the bank, either.

Adam Frazier is definitely not off the trade market. He's a slap hitter who is overperforming his metrics with 1.5 years of control. Cherrington is definitely giddy waiting for the biggest sucker to emerge in the next 3 weeks.

Last I checked, the Sox' 3rd-ranked prospect is a AAA SS/2B... not sure they're going to allocate significant salary/years to a free agent 2B.
I'm guessing Arroyo will be the guy until Downs is ready. They could also acquire a CF (or promote one?) and move Enrique to 2B next year.
Not that I'm a huge Downs guy but if they don't get value from him in a trade, they're going to want value from him on the field.

He'll at least wait until the off-season.

Billy Buckner had zero reason to "be forgiven" in my household. Tomase was no overzealous bumbling cub reporter -- he was 13 years in as a sports reporter. He also doubled down on his faulty reporting immediately before Herald bosses took the reigns and publicly apologized. Tomase violated the ethos of his profession. He violated public trust. One ought not get a mulligan for that. You get to reveal yourself as untrustworthy but once. Bruce Allen has a measured account here: bostonsportsmedia.com/2015/07/29/a-reminder-about-john-rollo-tomase/

with the drafting of Mayer is lugo, cannon, flores & maybe howlett be trade prospects ? That was my thought, as well. Not sure the other guys have much value, but Lugo seemed well thought of going into his draft. Maybe he'd be a piece somebody would consider a "get" in a trade. Not that you'd assume Mayer is a lock, but he's as close to consensus 1/1 as you can be without actually being it (rankings-wise), so an organization would be forgiven for clearing his path through the system and using those who would have played his position to add to the major league team. Especially considering you have an all star at that position at the major league level for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile Cannon is a 2b and Howlett is a 3b. They may be trade bait at some point like a 3rd or 4th player in a trade but what does Mayer, a SS have to do with them? Nothing I would think.

Interesting indeed, i'm surprised nobody came up with him until now. I don't think it would even take that much to get him.
Durability: He is somewhat injury prone. Most career AB per season 421 (on pace for more this season)
Stats: he is a bit of an oddball. His BABIP is very high (.383) but statcast supports his stats. Courtesy of 52.8% HardHit%. OBP xwOBA .387 .373
SLG xSLG .481 .487
Position: Plays OF corners + 1B
Conclusion: He is somewhat of discount (injury prone) righty Joey Gallo.
Team politics: Dalbec has been getting better. If you trade for a 1B now, you basically have to trade Dalbec. Or else you sends a weird signal. He has 2 more arbitration years. Which would block Casas. But you could just trade him when the time comes.
Interesting indeed!

Feels like every trade rumor I see this year is either a batter riding a BABIP tsunami or a pitcher aggressively outperforming their xFIP and/or career trend.

I had him in mind but he's a RH batter and I figure that Chaim is looking for a LH hitting 1b. I was under the thought that he's not looking to block or deal away Dalbec at this moment and that Dalbec is somebody they'd give another year to improve, but then again I wouldn't be shocked if they did trade Dalbec away at some point. I just don't think it's this July. I'll see if Bloom proves me wrong on this. The truth of the matter is that I'm not at all sold on Dalbec. He's not hitting enough HRs to offset the strikeouts and worse, with his BA as low as it is, he's not taking walks, so his OBP is terrible. Don't know if it gets better. I'd think the Sox would get him a LH hitting complement and then try again with him next season, but I could be mistaken with that impression.
