Saw my final game in Fredericksburg tonight.
Nick Yorke just plain hits. Spraying line drives all over the place and drilled a home run over the left field wall. Really good hitter.
Lugo hits well against fastballs but struggles on picking up offspeed pitches in the dirt. I saw him four times this week and there were a bunch of ugly swings on the slow stuff.
I’m definitely not a scout and it’s two only games but I don’t like Jimenez’s swing from the left hand side. He’s had trouble timing it and squaring up on the ball. It’s been a lot of weak contact on the ground. Proof that I’m not a scout comes when Jimenez drills a 3B into the right-center gap right as I write this.
Jaxx had a rough game. Had a couple hard hit balls not fall for outs and got beat up behind the plate. Really busy back there tonight.
Nick Northcut is seeing the ball really well right now. Just missed homering for the 4th straight game by hitting a 400 foot double off the top of the center field wall. Had a deep fly out to the warning track and a clutch 2 RBI single in the 9th to get them within 1.
Jecorrah Arnold had a great series in the outfield. Made a great diving catch, came up with a bit of a bum shoulder, and stayed in the game after a visit from Montz and the trainer. The very next play he made another leaping catch against the left field wall.
On the mound, I really liked Jordan Divalerio. He didn’t pitch as bad as his line looks. For the first three innings he was keeping guys off balance with a lot of offspeed stuff and was pretty much unhittable. Fell off in his 4th inning of work after 50 pitches. His fastball was 90-92 for the first couple innings and more like 88-90 as his pitch count got up there, so I don’t know if he’s got enough for the upper minors but it’s more than enough for Low-A.
Alexander Montero’s velocity seems to be back. Stadium gun disclaimer but he was hitting 96-97 with the fastball repeatedly. Velocity dropped a bit in his second inning of work but was still 94-95. Let up a home run but also had a couple swinging strikeouts on offspeed stuff.
They tied the game with 5 runs in the 9th inning but ended up getting walked off after Yorke and Lugo miscommunicated and collided to drop a pop up in the bottom of the ninth. Had a chance but Bandy’s throw home got by Groshans.
