They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

He’s going to be getting a different kind of bang than he was talking about for the next 25+ years. Thank goodness they got sniffed out before anything happened, that had the potential to be one of the worst tragedies in American history. I’ll never understand people like this Hopefully we have a fun, safe weekend

Crazy to think the Futures are today with the Draft to follow....Red Sox and other minor league teams also playing....and for the cherry on top, happy birthday Mike Andrews!

This maid should throw out the opening pitch on Tuesday. She likely saved quite a few lives

Bello warming up in the pen. He hasn't stood still since BP, high energy

I cannot find the Future's Game box. I missed the last three innings. I see that Downs had a double that scored 2 runs and that Bello pitched. Any review of Bello's performance?

He was chucking it, had a little trouble with his control. His bullpen warm-ups were really impressive (was standing right above him on the rail). Downs BP was kinda disappointing, I think he only connected hard on 2 that left the park, but he blasted a double 108 mph off the bat in the game, so that's all moot. NL BP was 1000x better than AL.

On the ESPN pre derby show, they showed the 3 shortest HRs of the first half and guess what? The 2 shortest were hit off Eduardo Rodriguez (A 315 ft and a 310 ft). What a loser!

No HR Derby watchers? Old friend Dave Jauss throwing to Pete Alonso, who just got a record 35 in the first round. Ball is flying out with the humidor turned off.

Even more than normal in Coors the ball just pops off Soto's bat!

Alonso put on a show! Despite the new rules still took as long as a normal game, but Derby was lots of fun. Alonso now 2-time reigning champ, announcers calling for Tatis and Vladito to challenge him next time.

Didn't think to turn it on until they were starting the second round. Was pulling for Mancini, but man Alonso was something. Glad I watched, that was fun.

Juan Soto gonna look so good in Red Sox uniform. Yes, good thing no other teams are going to try to sign him.

The consistent trajectory off Alonso’s bat was pretty amazing. I’d love to see his HR swings superimposed cuz they all looked pretty similar in real time.
As for Mancini, yes it was a great “story”, but the show he put on was impressive. I knew he had power, but he looked very interesting to me, even if it was just an exhibition with juiced balls.
Soto may have been the most impressive, though. He sprayed the ball all over the place, not just pulling the ball into the corner.
Overall, it was fun, and one of the most competitive HR Derbies I’ve seen (even with Salvy having an excellent round that nobody seemed to watch). Unfortunately it was impossible to enjoy the HRs themselves because they were hitting them so fast, and the production crew had no idea what to do.

I loved the last round when Alonso knew he had it in the bag and actually stood and watched his last few! He deserved it, but you miss that a bit.

Soto is 22 this season. He will be 25 or 26 when he becomes a free agent (if the nats don't sign him). If he produces like he has, he will get one of those 10+ year contracts that no human being is able to fulfill (stat-wise).

If he produces like he has, he will get one of those 10+ year contracts that no human being is able to fulfill (stat-wise). 1) The Nats won't extend him, they tried multiple times and he, and his agent (Boras), declined...He'll test free agency. 2) He'll put such ridiculous offensive numbers in the first 6 years of his contract to the point where his decline years won't matter and I also think that he's so so good that at age 38 he'll be be getting on base at a .380+ clip with no problems. We're talking about a generational talent here folks! We're talking Ted Williams 2.0. Better than Acuna, Tatis, Vladito with absolutely no holes in his offensive toolset: The best eye in the batter's box, the contact, the line drives to all fields, the occasional mamouth dinger, the mannerism, the clutch on the big stage... As I said, he'll look awesome in Sox uniform and I can't wait for that day.
