And Jeremy Wu-Yelland. I thought it might be a lefty thing until seeing Gonzalez. :/) Chris Archer has also been a proponent.
I hope Wilkelman isn't as wildly over-rated as Archer was...
Agreed. Unless, of course, he got overrated to a point that they could fleece some other team for a return similar to what TB got from Pirates. :/)

Not to pull this on a tangent but getting Chris Archer as an outcome for Gonzalez would be an absolutely terrific result. Dude had a very good 3-year peak and a couple more averagish seasons. He'd be their best homegrown starter since Clay Buchholz.

Agreed, and it is wild how high people get on low level prospects based on random comps (in this case their hat usage) but my interpretation of that comment is not that they hope Wilkelman Gonzalez doesn't become (only) as good as Chris Archer, but that he doesn't end up specifically as overrated as Chris Archer was. There have been much worse players than Chris Archer who got much more overrated than he was.

The context of the scout chatter on Wilkelman was really helpful because I saw his last start (and only that). He was having trouble locating his slider, and seemed to revert back to the loopy curveball at times to be able to get it over.

If there is a baseball god, then Wilkelman will become a TOTRS. Yeah I know, I'm dreaming........but what a great name.

Sooooooo apparently the poor guy's name is spelled "Wikelman" and it's been misspelled everywhere. I guess the pronunciation is actually "WILK-a-man" which leads to the confusion (and doesn't make any sense to me but whatever).

For Spanish speakers that extra L did seem out of place so this makes more sense but since our people do get creative with the names so just went with it.
The pronunciation probably sound something like: Wickel (like wicked w/o the D emphasis on L) and man is man.

Definitely "Wicker Man" not the bees, anything but the bees Gonzalez. It slightly beats out "Wrinkle free" Gonzalez, but it does have the edge.

Even if he can’t stick as a starter for whatever reason (presumably strike-throwing)…imagine this guy out of the pen? He’s gonna K 18 per 9
I’m becoming more and more optimistic about his chances to stick as a starter. His ascent is kinda reminding me of Bello’s. He has more control issues but it’s the same vibe. Low bonus, good stuff, explodes onto the scene

He has more control issues but it’s the same vibe I was checking both these guys MiLB numbers a few hours ago because he gave me the same vibe lmao Bello was a year older when he made the jump from High A to AA Bello with the better control in GVL Their pitch mix is different too: Bello sinker/off speed vs Wilkelman 4 seamer/curveball But I totally get the vibe.

I’ll also add: if I have to choose between 2 pitching prospects at the same age: prospect A: 7.4 K/9 and 1.2 BB/9 Prospect B: 14.6 K/9 and 4.7 BB/9 I’ll always take prospect B

Low bonus, good stuff, explodes onto the scene Bello’s with a regrettable hint of Darwinzon’s IMO Still, hard not to dream on his upside. Seems pretty much unmatched in the Sox system outside of Perales.
