So Henry Nunez pitched in relief yesterday and is getting the start today? Box score error?
ADD: 2.2 innings in and the box score still says Nunez. Never seen a guy pitch 3.2 innings of long relief one day and then pitch multiple innings the next. Especially with a pitching staff the size of an FCL club.

Definitely a box score error, which are not uncommon for FCL games.

Definitely a box score error, which are not uncommon for FCL games. That was my 1st thought. 4 innings in now and they haven’t changed it. Whoever it is, they’re doing pretty well. 4 IP, 0 ER, 5 Ks. ADD: Turned out it was Encarnacion. 5 scoreless innings, 1 walk, 5 Ks. Down to a 0.50 ERA. 1 run in 18 innings so far.

How did you overcome the desire to write Blaze is on fire? Too obvious?
Keep up the fun on the headlines.

For the first time in his FCL season, Bonaci is playing 2nd base. Hmmm kind of strange isn't it?

Jose Disla started a rehab stint in the FCL today.
Enmanuel De Jesus got promoted to Worcester. Temporary, I’m sure, but if he gets into a game it’ll be his AAA debut after ending 2019 in A+.

Somebody get Espinal out of this game!! Losing 7-5 and 3rd isn’t over yet! I’m here and he’s tipping off his pitches left and right!

Welp, Liu got 2 outs and gave up 8 runs He should go back to hitting and terminate this pitching thingMore seriously though, he's been kind of meh so far: No pinpoint control (BB/9 3.5), doesn't strikeout lots of people (K/9 5.5) and lacks swing and miss stuff (whiff% 9.9). He hasn't been doing a single thing well, yeah he generates some contact on the ground (54% GB%) but you really can't judge that skill till a pitcher reach AA. He's also 22 years old. Color me unimpressed.

This is his first month playing ball in awhile right? Same goes to a 100% of minor league pitchers. It's just that he's not showing me anything interesting. I wouldn't worry if say, he was walking 5.4 batters per 9 while striking out 11+ per 9 or if he was pounding the zone while not getting an above avg K numbers. He reminds me a lot of Trey Ball in his statistical profile: All around mediocrity.

Liu’s situation is different than most other pitchers though. He’s had the back and forth of pitcher to position player to pitcher along with the pandemic. His stuff being down according to reports is concerning but he effectively gets a mulligan on this year for me. Just build back up and show progress. Next year is the important year.

Winckowski: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER (2 R), 1 BB, 2 Ks. Retired the last 16 batters he faced in a row.
Game ends with a walk-off home run by Tyreque Reed. Reed hasn’t slowed down a bit since his promotion. What happens when Casas comes back? Obviously Casas isn’t going to lose playing time to Reed, but Reed has also done nothing to show he should go back down to Greenville.

Reed should go to Pawt Worcester. There's nobody of significant first base value there. Who knows, might be a delayed mature and potential Dalbec upgrade (low bar). Not much to lose.

Is DH not the logical alternative? That's seems like a pretty easy step, if I'm not missing anything.

Meh, I'm with kingstephanos - just DH Reed 3x/week and Casas 2x.

DHing Reed and Casas alternatively throughout the week is the easiest solution. My general issue is the overall playing time that’s going to happen on that roster. There’s going to have to be some type of movement even to make the roster numbers work, with Casas, Meneses, and Baldwin coming back. Too many guys that need playing time and not enough spots. Injuries will happen and they’ll make it work either way, but it’ll be interesting to see how it happens. Sending guys up to Worcester isn’t even a fix all because they’re already at a 5-man bench with two of their own position players coming back after the Olympics. There’s still six weeks or so of baseball after they come back.
Look, either way the teams will make it work like they always do, but it will be interesting to see what happens. Combine that with the cup of coffee promotions at the end of the season and there will continue to be some decent movement happening over the next couple of months. It’ll be fun.
