His season. twOBA is xw and w properly weighted. Date BFP twOBA 6/6/2021 3 .093 6/20/2021 4 .174 7/9/2021 8 .452 7/11/2021 4 .275 7/16/2021 3 .048 7/18/2021 2 .435 7/20/2021 5 .679 7/21/2021 4 .283 7/24/2021 3 .179 7/29/2021 6 .438 Tot .343 4 great, 2 good, 4 bad. Presumably they see something they like.
Why are his three worst perforncces also his three longest? (7/9, 7/20, 7/29.) Gonna have to look at the PBP there.

This is a good trade for both teams in a very small way. Sox get *something* for a guy at the end of the line with them. Pirates get a guy who might benefit from their greater patience.

I think this is a nothing for nothing deal although the Pirates can get some run out of Chavis. He is a 2nd division club kind of player so he gets to play and the Sox get practically nothing.

I still think Chavis will definitely figure it out. This was a good move for this year though. Long term, I feel we will regret this one

Chavis was on his way to Worcester with the coming return of Arroyo and the upcoming arrival of Schwarber.
Instead, he is going to Pittsburgh.
Same difference, really.

Austin Davis has one option left (already used this year, so this is his last year of eligibility). So at least he gives them a little flexibility.
He's also controllable through the end of 2025.

He supposedly wipes out LH but with an ERA over 5 you must wonder if this is a depth move. Chavis needs a fresh start and he needs to work on his swing. He Strikeouts too much. You could literally take out 1/3 an inning his ERA would be 1.92 We know how relief pitchers evolve. Maybe Bloom and company have use identified a guy who’s going to be great down the stretch.

Ian saying he has two options left... Unless I'm missing something, he was optioned for at least 10 days in 2019, 2020, and 2021, right? Which would make this his last year of optional eligibility?

Something had to be done to move deadwood from the first base spot. Apparently, in management's eyes, Chavis had exhausted his opportunities and hadn't shown enough promise to keep him on the 40-man roster, so getting a guy like Davis is as much an 'addition by subtraction' as anything. Let's see what Davis can do over the next couple of months. If he can come in and consistently get lefties out, that'll be at least some value - more than what Chavis has provided.

With the additions of Davis and Robles, the returns of Sake, Houck and Sawamura, and allowing for the subtractions of Workman, Rios, Brasier and Andriese, the Sox still have six starters and ten relievers. Two of them are not going to be on the 26 player squad.
Houck to stay down until September? Not my idea of the best approach. Richards or Perez gone when Sale is added? D Hernandez?

They've already said Houck is down basically as an accounting trick. He is going to pitch in the double header on 8/7. Essentially he misses maybe one relief appearance he would have made in this window. After it's over he'll be back full time.

Why do you have Houck down until september? He will start 1 of the games of the Aug 7th double header and will return for good and make another start six days later.

Odds are not all of those guys will be healthy at the same time in August. If they are, could also option Valdez or Davis.

Can't be worse than most of the other times we've traded for relievers in the past decade.

10.24 K/9? I can live with that. Good luck Mike, nice guy, terrible hitter. Understand. Where was all this negativity when Middlebrooks and now Dalbec goes up to the plate and swings wildly at everything thrown up there? it's like watching tv and reading the newspaper.. selectivity towards what to ignore and pay attention to. I'll say this about Chavis.. One of the nicest guys talked to his short time with the Sox while with the GCL club.

Chavis does seem like a super likable guy. I'll be rooting for him.

Chavis is indeed a very likable guy. I honestly can't stand negativity directed toward these guys on their way out when they do nothing but bust their arses to become major leaguers. I'll be strongly rooting for him in PIT and won't forget his hot start when he burst on the scene in 2019.

I hope he gets enough reps to learn how to manage that fastball up
If he does he’ll be a good hitter
