That's a true save. Now they need Garrett Richards to salvage this series with a split. What could go wrong with that? Richards has been okay the first two times through the order. Plenty of arms available tomorrow. If Richards can give them 3-4 innings, I like our chances.

Whew - what a relief (pun intended) - GREAT win, IMPORTANT win. Houck, Verdugo, Arauz, Ottavino, Whitlock. Thank you.

The last two times JDM had to take a day off for illness, he came back and hit like his hair was on fire. We got this.

They all look like blowouts in the box score.
Wait…

Last thoughts before bed time - as rough as this stretch has been (and it has been really, really rough)
San Fran with 69 wins Tampa with 67 Milwaukee and Houston with 66 AND Boston, along with Chicago and LA - 65.
Just to put things in perspective.
and - Whitlock with a Bob Gibsonian ERA of 1.17!

Great pitching today from both Pivetta and Houck (and Whitlock and Ottavino...). ERod had a great start as well to salvage a win in Motown. Sale is coming back. That's four starters (counting Houck and Whitlock as a piggyback) going well, plus no more Perez days. The next time through, those four will all pitch against TB in Fenway. After that the schedule is BAL, @ MFY, TEX, MIN, @ CLE. It gets better. And Schwarbier.
EDIT: Almost forgot about Eovaldi. His last outing was the exception, not the rule. LFG!

1-3 stars of game: Houck, Verdugo, Ottavino. Whitlock/Arauz ( who showed some decent strike zone feel and bat control), pretty good too. Marwin - (must be)thinking about where he's going to be, 2022.

Last 4 starts for Houck, no runs while in the ballgame. I do not understand why the Red Sox sent him down !

The bats are due to break out, let's hope it happens tomorrow to cover what Richards will give up and then we can leave Toronto with a split.
This has been really tough watching the past two weeks, but I still refuse to believe the team for the rest of the year is what we've seen the past 13 games and not the team we saw play the first 100 games. Time to break out of this rut!

Last 4 starts for Houck, no runs while in the ballgame. I do not understand why the Red Sox sent him down ! Roster manipulation. He has options. And with today being a double header you get the free 27th body for the day. That was well thought out and planed much ahead of time.

If there's a silver lining, today we get to see two rookie pitchers who will be strong candidates for ROY. And Pivetta and Sale Modern day Spahn & Sain?

That was well thought out and planed much ahead of time. To hell with roster manipulation! Houck should have replaced Pérez or Richards in the rotation 3 weeks ago! The Red Sox should have roster manipulated one of their a$$e$ off the roster as in DFA. The 2022 rotation should look more like: Sale Eovaldi Pivetta Houck Whitlock I would welcome E-Rod back as a show me you are healthy for a 1 or 2 year for $8 or $9 million per year. Neither Richards nor Pérez should be back in 2022, so let them go a little early, (same with Marwin, Santana).

Does anyone else feel like we should be moving Verdugo back to 2nd in the lineup. Ever since he’s moved down in the lineup our offense is horrible.

I don’t believe this discussion belongs in this thread but it should be Sale Eovaldi Pivetta E-Rod Houck but i’m not opposed to Gausman, Morton or Gray or other FA pitchers. Richards and Perez =$16,000,000 Plus E-Rod, you can get one of those for that all day and even save money. If we added one of those guys and let E-Rod walk I wouldn’t be crying. Sale Sale Eovaldi Eovaldi Pivetta Gausman Morton Pivetta Houck Houck

That was well thought out and planed much ahead of time. So does coming up as the 27th man not reset your clock? And by that I mean he was optioned for the first time around ~10 days ago... so they won’t have to wait the standard 10 or 15 days or whatever it is to recall him again? If that’s the case it’s kind of genius. They pick up 8 games (the 4 before today and the 4 after today) of having an extra useable player on the roster and Houck doesn’t miss a start.... Edit: Houck did miss one start. So the cost of having the extra guy for 8 games is 4IP by Houck
