2022 MLB Draft

Just to confirm the posts above, it's zero percent because MLB rules only allow us to redraft him with his permission. ... and his father is on record that the Red Sox don't have that permission.

Here is a list of kids who have been mocked to the Red Sox by a national outlet and mentioned in this thread. They are ranked by number of mentions and then by recency of mention. Obviously, many outlets have done multiple mocks but I'm considering each mock to stand on its own, even if it's the same kid by the same mocker multiple times. Jordan Beck (x7) (Pete Crow-Armstrong Award) Sterlin Thompson (x4) Jett Williams (x3) Drew Gilbert (x3) Brock Jones (x2) Dylan Beavers (x2) Kumar Rocker Max Wagner Dylan Lesko (post-TJ) Justin Crawford Hunter Barco (before he snapped his UCL?) Cole Young Logan Tanner Kevin Parada Yes, there have been 28 mocks mentioned in this thread. My general takeaway is that college OFs are being mocked to the Sox mainly because there are a lot of them that fall in the late-20s range. I don't think anyone has been mocked because they've been "linked" to BOS -- if we've learned only one thing about Chaim and the draft, it's that he runs a VERY tight ship. My guess is that pick 24 will be the best pure hit tool left on the board or a pitcher with an unusually high K/BB for his age/level. Thanks for this! One mock mentioned LHH catcher Malcolm Moore, McClatchy (Sacramento, Calif.) as a possible surprise pick (meaning the Sox would like him much more than the people doing the public mocks and rankings). www.maxpreps.com/athlete/malcolm-moore/4kf9b-qMEeiAxKkkK9HIDg/default.htmMaybe I missed that but the only mention I saw of Moore was at pick 64? Maybe I'm mixing him up with someone else. I don't remember seeing him as being mocked to the Sox at pick 24. Of course, I went through 30 pages of this thread, so there were times when I was a little cross-eyed...

Welcome, @chris to the Robby Snelling bandwagon! There's plenty of room for everyone else! Obviously they are NOT going to draft a prep pitcher, because no one ever drafts prep pitchers in the first round, right? What a crazy idea! [checks notes... oops, 4 prep pitchers went in the first round last year, including picks 3, 7, 13, and 26...]
Snelling is an athletic southpaw who started at QB and LB for the McQueen HS (Reno) football team (alma mater of Kyle Van Noy) and was committed to Arizona to play both sports before switching to a baseball only commitment at LSU. Scouts say he pitches like a LB, so we'll see if that translates to pro ball.
A lot of mockers have him going higher than 24 (haven't heard Ringo Starr's opinion yet), so if he falls to the Sox, it would be seen as a bit of a break for the team.
But there's no way that Chaim picks a prep pitcher, right? Because... ... ... ?

Of course, I went through 30 pages of this thread, so there were times when I was a little cross-eyed... It was Joe Doyle, not named as the pick but mentioned as possible surprise: "24. Boston Red Sox Jordan Beck, OF, Tennessee Another tough one to tag, the Red Sox are all over the map. Louisville catcher Dalton Rushing gets mentioned here, but it’s a pretty light connection. They’ve been out to see James Madison outfielder Chase Delauter quite a bit, and Florida’s S terlin Thompson is mentioned here quite a bit too. If we’re swinging for the fences and guessing the “Red Sox surprise” of 2022, McClatchy catcher Malcolm Moore is worth keeping on your peripherals." www.prospectslive.com/prospects-live/2022-mlb-mock-draft-n78w7-st9r4-wa35p

McDaniel also gives them Ivan Melendez with pick #79.

McDaniel also gives them Ivan Melendez with pick #79. I know we have a pretty solid pool of 1B prospects as it is, but Melendez is probably my biggest draft crush and I’ve been dreaming about Rocker’s potential for three years now, so I’d be a very happy camper in this scenario

I think this one may be tied for my least favorite mock with any that has them going 2 college OF's. I know people love Romero, his personality definitely helps, but I just don't see it

I think im starting to want to jump aboard the take Rocker if he's there train. His stuff looks good again albeit in a short sample in the independent league and he may not have the longest career. It also generally never works to rush a guy but there's an outside shot he can be up in the next year to help the bullpen. Just seems about as close to a sure bet to at least be a major league caliber player as long as his arm holds up which obviously is a giant question with him. But they're picking 24 not top 5 this year, he seems worth the risk especially with the added pick for not signing Fabian last year.

Not so sure. Their 6/16 mock had him at 19 and the 6/30 mock had him at 22. Their top 30 from a month ago (which hasn't been updated from what I can tell) had him at 9 though. So I don't know why they have him falling that low or if in fact it was an oversight. It's a fireable offense.

Jung and Susac do seem to be the College bats “falling” but not completely out of the 1st round more to the late teens/20s. I’d be surprised too if any of them fall out of the 1st.

Am I a bad person for hoping that Jud Fabian slides and ends up signing for less than the Red Sox offered him last year? The public involvement of parents quite often is a warning sign (David Clyde, Bobby Carpenter, etc).

I mean, you can't name five guys per pick...

The public involvement of parents quite often is a warning sign (David Clyde, Bobby Carpenter, etc). I would prefer that he goes higher than 24, which will push another player that the Sox *can* pick one slot closer to them.
I've got nothing against Jud personally (as I'm sure Chaim doesn't). They drafted him, offered a certain amount, and he turned them down. It happens all the time.
The big grudge is apparently coming from him and his fam who seem to think that Chaim *knew* that BAL was prepared to offer him a lot more one spot later and Chaim picked him to block BAL. There are a lot of conspiracy theories out there...
Looking at BAL's draft, it appears that they used some of the money that would have otherwise gone to Fabian on HS C Creed Willems, who hasn't worked out so far in Rookie ball or Low A... In other words, score one for Chaim!

^ Literally my thought process. The first P that the Sox selected last year, in the 4th round (pick 105), was preppie Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz... but they'd never do that in the first round... right?
