Really interested to see how Jacob Berry does at LSU this upcoming season after transferring from Arizona. If he can keep mashing in a slightly less run hitter friendly environment and show that he's likely staying at 3rd, I could like him as a top 10 guy.

Does the Semien signing move our picks up a spot in the 2nd round?

I'm still interested to see how far Kumar Rocker falls. Obviously you have to check his medicals carefully but I hardly think being rejected by the Mets at #10 (when they were able to do so without really losing anything) means that he's washed up. MLB.com didn't have him in their top 20 in a September mock. Could he fall to 41?

Ask and ye shall receive. EL has Rocker at #13 overall.
I'm sure he'll keep himself in shape at Boras's complex, maybe a handful of indy-league games, and have at least one pro-style workout leading up to the big day -- he won't be flying under anyone's radar.

We are in the perfect spot in the draft to take a few high end pitching projects. Picking higher it’s risky but in the position we pick I’m looking for a Michael Kopech type project or two.

This seems to be a great draft to add some pitching depth into the system. We will have a lower first round pick (not as much to lose as compared to a high first round pick) plus we have a high second round pick and an extra pick somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Between those extra picks we could have close to another mid round draft pick. (forgive me I'm to lazy to look up the actual slot amounts so I could be off a bit).
The other idea is if we are able to "push" a high end talent down to our first round pick, using the extra money from the high second round pick and bonus slot. Maybe we use the regular second round pick and regular third round pick to take pitchers and target a higher end talent that we push down (although I highly doubt this would occur due to bonus demands and how the slots drop drastically from top 10 picks to later first round picks).

Total pet peeve of mine. It's more endearing and honest (and frankly makes better content) to just be like "hated this at the time, listen to my interview to get answers on why I was so wrong!"

Exactly. If he had prefaced his question about the 2020 draft by saying "to be honest (which he did say), I was critical of your 2020 draft but it has really turned out great..." he would've gained a lot more credibility.
I also don't love how "endeared" Coyle was by Casas refusing (or saying he wanted to refuse) the silver medal at the Olympics. I thought it was incredibly banal and immature of Casas. Dude, give it to your parents who ferried you to all those PG and Area Code events. They will cherish it. And when you come across it again in 10, 20, 30 years, you'll remember how incredible the experience was that produced it.

That reminds me of the podcast posted in the Jud Fabian thread in which the hosts were telling Fabian how much they loved him "betting on himself" by rejecting the Red Sox' offer. Sure, that's fun for you, comfortably ensconced in (I assume) the banal trappings of middle age; it makes for a nice dramatic narrative. But does it even matter to you whether that's a prudent decision for the young kid? There's a certain strain of commentary that wants athletes to be these ferocious competition monsters without much consideration for whether that's, like, psychologically healthy. (What happens to the vast majority of competition monsters who don't make it - and who we therefore never hear from again?)

Nice observation. Kids certainly don’t realize yet that not often do life’s windows to personal advancement (career, financial, whatever) open for you. Second chances are called that for a reason. Competition monster-ness is also overblown. It’s a game.

MLB Pipeline dropped their initial top 100 for the 2022 draft
Some notables are Rocker at 31 and Fabian at 45. Not super familiar with the class yet. Druw Jones #1.

Holy crap, he's 6'8 coming out of high school? I know we're wayyy too early to even dream on these kids but his video is enamoring. I'm all for a high ceiling prep arm though.

I saw it, and I like Jacob Berry a lot, but it was very surprising to see him as their top college guy, especially ahead of Brooks Lee (the Perfect Game mock has Lee 1oa). Only possible for me to comment on the college orderings (and I have to be honest, not caught very much Cal Poly, though Lee did light up the Cape). Interesting year for guys coming out of slightly smaller schools with serious potential to go in top 10 - Brooks Lee and Chase DeLauter (James Madison). Perfect Game looks pretty low on Carter Young and Brooks Lee both - college bats with a little swing and miss in their games at the moment.

Would’ve made more sense if the father was Druw and the son was Andruw… EDIT: I lived in Georgia for most the ‘90s. Jones was the best CF I’ve ever watched on a regular basis. Yes, better than JBJ.

I can see why he's on the bubble.
His career kind of fell off a cliff when he left Atlanta (at age 31), with a lot of injuries and bouncing from team to team. Great peak but lower career numbers (e.g. less than 2000 hits) than you typically see in the HOF.
I'll always remember how shallow he played in CF to take singles away but running down virtually every ball hit over his head that didn't carom high off the wall or go over it.
The more voters who consider defense as an important part of the game (despite the long history of inadequate stats to describe it) and who understand that his 10 gold gloves weren't of the Jeterian variety, the more likely he'll eventually make it.
