Hard pass on Kimbrel. He is melting down again. And, as you say, it is a huge investment. I hope they resign ERod, but even if they don’t they have Sale, Eovaldi, Pivetta, Houck, Whitlock, and Seabold who all look like good bets to be no less than serviceable. So Bloom could probably do a Perez-type for depth… nothing extravagant. Now… I’d *love* to add Scherzer, but the money might be better directed elsewhere. The pen could be almost an entire redo. It’ll be tough to get a closer without overspending. This is where Bloom needs to work some magic… find a non-closer who they project as being better than people previously thought. Yeah, that's what I suspect he'll do, get a low profile guy to close. Kimbrel will make somebody a great closer, but he's expensive and as we see he cannot pitch any inning but the 9th in a save situation. Graveman has been sensational this year. After a very iffy career as a starter. He’s a FA

But then again, it could be somebody with some resume as a closer. Bloom did spend some money to get Ottavino. Graveman or somebody like him might fill the bill. Can't imagine it'll be more Hansel Robles types, but who knows.

Over the years, my conditioned response to Barnes having another meltdown is to be transformed into Elias in Platoon.
"Barnes !!!.......Barnes !!!!!"

The only ones in the Red Sox lineup with a wRC+ below 110 or OPS below .778 are Shaw and Vazquez. Four guys are above 130 wRC+ and .880 OPS.
They really ought to have a very solid offense down the stretch.

Monday's win likely catapulted the team into a hot streak. If they win, say 7 of the next 15, we'll look back on 8/23 as the turning point.
More Plawecki, less Vazquez

Can't see room for Santana on the roster at the moment - who would go to Woo? If Brasier comes back to the big club in the coming weeks - Robles? Davis?

If they go 7-8 we'll look at Monday's win as a catalyst? I guess playing .500 is a big step up from playing .300 ball for three weeks. Hopefully they do better than that. The turning point would be getting the hell away from the Rays, Jays, and Yankees for awhile and playing bad/mediocre teams.

I'd like to see some clean games, good D, disciplined baserunning (aggressive good, running into so many outs not) - and a better approach at the plate, especially from some of our recent flailers. then let's see where the chips fall.

I love the idea of Duran but this was the right move. Also, I wonder if they've made a mistake trying to make him an OF despite his speed. If he was good at second base, who cares if he has elite speed. Maximize his strengths on both sides of the ball. Also, he needs a lot of work on base-stealing. He's fast as a deer but the reads and jumps are substandard.

Houck throws a perfect 27 strike out game as the Red Sox win 35-0. Book it.
(Going to the game so getting to set a reasonable expectation).

Ok, I’m going to say this at risk of a jinx… but the Twins have really surprised me this year. I didn’t think they’d suck.

The '21 Sox need a spark to make the big step to playing .500 ball. Incremental improvement leads to perfection
