I can't believe my beloved JohnFrank is below .300. At least we had the summer.

Mayer with a single and two walks in three PA so far today. He's got an OPS over .800 (.229/.386/.429) despite just a .222 BABIP. His line with a .300 BABIP would be .285/.432/.485.

I can't believe my beloved JohnFrank is below .300. At least we had the summer. Lyonell the GOAT still above it! This is also a great example of a statistical phenomenon that shows itself whenever people are asked to select "hot" or "breakout" performers. They're often more likely to be people who were expected to not to do as well. Then they go cold and it turns out they actually weren't as good as their hot streak and people talk about curses and whatnot. People joked about it for the ringer as well. If you only select people based on them being at the absolute top of their historical performance, that list of people is going to be disappointing in a month's time fairly often. Um... I mean... That's what you get for not choosing a better random DSL guy to follow!!!

Francis Hernandez is having a really solid pitching season in the DSL. He is admittedly old for the level (turns 20 in September), but this is his first professional season after the lost season last year. He got a decent bonus too $142,000.
Overall line: 29.1 IP, 16 H, 6 BB, 28 K. 1.23 ERA, 0.75 WHIP

iakovos, I play a lot of trivia and that was a 99 restaurant trivia question about Lou Gossett in that role. In case you didn't get the reference, its from An Officer and a Gentlemen.

Yorke's 1st at bat: A ROCKET to short for an out. 2nd at bat: A 60ish mph grounder to second for single. Baseball!

Winner winner, chicken dinner. Whenever I hear the name Gossett, I always think Louis Gossett Jr and then An Officer and a Gentlemen. Good movie. In that day and age, that was a well known quote -
For the uninitiated -
Only two things come outta Oklahoma, Steers and Queers. Which one are you, boy? I don't see any horns.

DSL onomastics: Jean Carlos Reyes relieved by Carlos Reyes. Has a person named XYZ ever been relieved by a person named YZ?

Victor Santos now has a 31-4 strikeout to walk ratio. He is the youngest pitcher in the league that shows up on this baseball reference leaderboard of 100 pitchers.

Victor Santos now has a 31-4 strikeout to walk ratio. He is the youngest pitcher in the league that shows up on this baseball reference leaderboard of 100 pitchers. In 2021, opponents who are older than Victor have a combined .633 OPS in 267 PA. Opposing batters who are younger than Victor are 2-for-5 with a HR off of him.
[EDIT: One of those guys was Francisco Alvarez, who hit the homer.]
[N.B. In his entire minor league career, hitters younger than Victor account for 58 of his 1147 batters faced.]
The Victor also has reverse splits in 2021, with an .812 OPS by opposing RH batters and a .474 OPS by LH hitters (both in roughly 125 ABs). That could suggest that he's got a new pitch that's effective vs. lefties (as these reverse splits are new for him).

Tough for Lawlar, though. Triston Casas got hurt in his first game and missed the rest of that season, so... doesn't mean a ton.
