Bello settled down nicely after the first inning. Rio Gomez is on to pitch the sixth.

Walter putting a bow on his SoxProspects Pitcher of the Year candidacy tonight. Gotta be the leader in the clubhouse in this man's opinion.

Walter looks like another guy that will be ready for a big league bullpen job the week after they move him to relief.

Bello’s first 3 pitches 97-99-100 ...and now locked in at 100 for multiple pitches according to the broadcast and/or stadium gun. I had him for 6 100's in the first and one more in the fourth on his 71st pitch. Of his six k's, five were swinging, two on the fastball, three on the 87-91 breaking pitches. He was a little unlucky in the first with the bloop double that Granberg almost caught and MacIver's slow roller to third for an infield single that continued the inning. The two first inning walks and 15 total ball contributed to the lengthy inning as did 10 foul balls. I wondered if he would continue but he did wonderfully, even sprinting to the mound in the fifth where he still had 96-98 in the tank. Agree that he is a very exciting pitching prospect.

So I saw Bello pitch last night and I have zero ability to give you guys a scouting report but I was impressed. He struggled in the first inning, but that was a function of his control and not his stuff. He walked two guys, gave up a double that wasn't that hard hit, and might have been caught by a better fielder, Granberg almost made an amazing play diving for the ball only to have it pop out of his glove. The second hit was a weakly hit infield single. But Hartford was not making great contact and he was generating swing and misses.
Settled in nicely after that and held his velocity into the 5th. The only thing I found a little concerning was he was visibly frustrated in the first inning, but I would imagine that's not too uncommon for a young man and to his credit he pulled it together. It looks to me that he fields his position pretty well too, he made a nice play on a weak hit grounder charging in, turning, and throwing a strike to Casas.
I didn't see Casas do much at the plate. Despite his 0-5 there you could see how comfortable he felt in the batter's box. He's BIG too, he looks like a man amongst boys.

I watched most of the Portland/Hartford game on MiLB.tv. Bello was pretty remarkable, particularly the way he bounced back after the long, unlucky first inning. He looks like he'll polish up really nice.
I was disappointed with Casas's body language when he made poor contact. I also wasn't crazy about his fielding at 1B. Why does he hold the bag with his left foot when receiving a throw? If he uses his right foot and stretches for the ball, that roller to 3B in the first inning might have been the third out and saved Bello about 10 pitches. Still 21 and less than 200 games of pro ball, he's got time to work some things out.

I think you may be conflating Kalish decking Place and Kopech breaking his hand in a fight with his roommate.
