9/17-9/19 Red Sox vs. Orioles Series Thread

My god, Dalbec is a stud. He's up to 110 wRC+. He was at 69 on 7/28.
Wish they could play the Orioles every game.

Not sure who is leading top American League rookie of the year is but Dalbec making a good case for himself. Nice win for the Red Sox even though Sale didn't have is best stuff. What a great season so far made my summer.

What a great season so far made my summer. If he started the season around the same time that Wander Franco did (6/22), he'd still be behind. But he has hit slightly better than Franco since then overall. In the AL, it's a race between Luis Garcia and Adolis Garcia. Dalbec is about the same player as Adolis Garcia, except Garcia is excellent on defense. Though I hope that some of what Dalbec has done in the last month and a half sticks for him and the cold streaks get shorter.

What’s the deal with DOB getting so many days off? Any word?

Since they are using Houck in the pen, they should consider him for closer.

Since they are using Houck in the pen, they should consider him for closer. I wouldn't be opposed, especially if he comes in early some of them. I don't think they should use just one guy tbh. They need to care more about overuse.

They need to care more about overuse. The O's aren't likely to need a closer plus he wouldn't be available the day before and after his start. Overuse doesn't seem likely. He could be our playoff closer. Barnes doesn't look like he's getting really good again anytime soon.

Since they are using Houck in the pen, they should consider him for closer. I like that idea not sure he could go back to back games. He does have stuff to be a closer. Might be to late to try I wouldn't want him to hurt himself.

For as bad as we think the Sox were for a stretch, and have been since, taking a step back and looking at their results in 10-game stretches actually shows that they really haven't been too different. It boils down to two things - (1) they had that bad 3-7 stretch and (2) they have shifted from being a 0.600 team to a 0.500 team.
7-3 5-5 6-4 6-4 6-4 7-3 5-5 7-3 6-4 6-4 3-7 5-5 5-5 5-5 5-4
They are still a remarkably consistent team, something that I didn't think was true after these past 7 weeks. Only 1 stretch under 0.500, compared to 4 for the Yanks, 5 for the Jays, and 1 for the Rays.
Red Sox: 7,5,6,6,6,7,5,7,6,6,3,5,5,5,5 (5-4 in the most recent 9 games, 13 games to go) Yankees: 5,4,7,6,7,2,6,4,5,7,8,7,8,2,5 (5-3 in the most recent 8 games, 14 games to go) Blue Jays: 4,5,7,7,3,5,4,7,6,4,8,3,6,8,5 (5-2 in the most recent 7 games, 15 games to go) Rays: 5,5,5,6,9,7,6,4,6,7,6,7,9,6,4 (4-4 in the most recent 8 games, 14 games to go)
Conversely, they don't go on hot stretches. 0 stretches of 8+ compared to 2 each for the other 3 teams.

Both Devers and Dalbec have been awesome today in the field. It's funny, I was at the game - my first ever!! (I'm from California, so opportunities are not plentiful) and a thought that I had was that Iglesias was the worst defensive infielder in the game today. He wasn't bad persay, but weirdly rushed a throw to first and didn't do much on top of that. Anyway, being in Fenway was very special. As a UCLA alum, I'm glad they rolled out the red carpet for me with the uniforms.

Boston now 81% chance of playoffs - MFY 60%, Jays 55%, Oakland 4%
we have 5 against Baltimore, 3 against Washington, 3 against MFY and 2 against Mets - 6 which should be easy
MFY have 3 vs Tampa, 3 vs Toronto, 3 vs Boston, 3 vs Texas and 2 vs Cleveland - 5 which should be easy
Toronto has 3 vs MFY, 3 vs Tampa, 6 vs Minnesota, 3 vs Baltimore - 9 which should be easy
MFY on the outside looking in?

Really special place of course - nothing like it!

Seems like we've been a lot of close ones. Boston has been in 41 1-run games this year - record on those games 26-15
MFY 43 1 run games, record 26-17
Toronto 29 1 run games, record 14-15
Tampa 38 1 run games, record 17-21
Chicago 33 1 run games, record 12-21
Pretty surprising to me all around - that we are so good in 1 run games, that the MFY are so good, and that Toronto and Tampa and the White Sox are so bad.

It’s time for Bogaerts and Devers to get hot and lead this team down the stretch. Those are the 2 big stars on this team and they have been mostly missing over the last few weeks.

Devers has been mediocre for about as long as Dalbec's been hot. A nice hot streak from him would help. He hit a couple balls hard today...

Xander only hitting .258 with 6HR in the 2nd half. .428SLG? We expect more from him. We NEED more from him.

Most homers ever by a 22-year old:
1. Eddie Matthews(47) in 1953 2T. Vlad Jr.(46) in 2021 2T. Joe DiMaggio(46) in 1937
That’s pretty good company....

What’s the deal with DOB getting so many days off? Any word? Pretty sure he does college football for ESPN which essentially gives him every weekend away from NESN......Their loss, our gain!!

It is like going to the Sistine Chapel, even though I have never been to the Sistine Chapel, because I would rather be at Fenway Park !!

The Cora Curse strikes again. It happens whenever the Sox are leading after five and the starter has thrown 80 pitches. Sale being pulled after 5 is fine as he has just come back from TJ, Covid list, and would would want $30 million per year over the next three year going longer in a game already under control. Save the bullets for the playoffs.
