They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

I'm getting this thread up well in advance of tomorrow's first pitch so that you can all talk amongst yourselves. On a sidenote, is Jordan Montgomery also creeping up anyone else's most hated current Yankees list? The sight of him leaves me irrationally annoyed.

Derek Jeter’s comment, “The Red Sox always choke” makes me both mad and chuckle as he and the Yankees pulled off the biggest choke ever the next year! I truely wish Jeter Deion Downs would either use JD or Deion. Lol Derek Jeter is and will always be my most hated Yankee (smug and arrogant). A-Rod, on the other hand, was just dumb, trying to knock the ball out of the first baseman’s glove.....what like no one in the stadium saw you do it....

I think that quote came from Yogi Berra, who said something like, "They've been trying to beat us for 80 years and haven't been able to yet"....until they finally did. I don't think Jeter and his canned quotes where he says nothing, right out of the Belichick catalogue, would say something like that to the press.

I thought I would have remembered that. I always hated that smug fist pump he'd do after the Yankees won or he made one of those going back over the shoulder catches. On that team, Mariano Rivera was the only guy I actually liked.....well, him and Joe Torre, I did like Torre, too.

I do not remember the exact context of the question, but I imagine it had something to do with the Red Sox leading and him smugly saying that he was not worried as the Red Sox always choke.... I do have to thank Jeter for sticking the Yankees with Stanton, but that does not make up for his arrogance. I will agree that I liked Torre and Rivera.

At least we don’t have to face Andrew Heaney in this series.

Derek Jeter would've been a .270 hitter on any other team. Until he did PEDs. Which I'm convinced he did with NYY as that whole clubhouse and culture was rife with them. Even Mariano's FB "amazingly" jumped from 88 MPH to 96 MPH when he went from AAA to MLB - within weeks.
Also, at "The Dive" game - Pokey Reece had a much better catch falling into the stands in the very same game. Jeter catches the ball then runs into the stands. Pokey jumped into the stands at nearly fully speed THEN caught the ball. I know this well because I was there. The Reece play was among the best ever seen on a foul ball. Jeter made a catch then dove into some guy's lap.
Jeter was also the most selfish "captain" I ever saw on a major sports team. A-Rod was a superior SS in all parts of the game, defensively (as well as offensively). But little mister piss-pants goody-two-spikes wouldn't move off the position because he wanted to be "The Greatest Yankee SS Ever." Puke.

He's on the list but it's a list that is extremely long. Aside from him being a Yankee I can't stand him because he sucks and would have an ERA over 6.00 if he was pitching for any team other than the Yankees.

I will say the Yankee I hate more than any other is Clemens. I even despised him when he was on the Sox.

But little mister piss-pants goody-two-spikes wouldn't move off the position because he wanted to be "The Greatest Yankee SS Ever." Puke. I always thought that dive play was way overrated. I used to say to MFY fans, "We have 21-year-old kids getting limbs blown off in Iraq in a war that nobody can even remember why we're fighting and I'm supposed to feel bad for a multi-zillioinaire BB player who got a little cut on his chin? Please." They never knew what to say to that. I also think Jeter as team-oriented leader is a total myth. During the ST when the press was all over Giambi because of steroid revelations ('04, I think), Captain Jetes came to his teammate's defense, telling the press Giambi was a good guy and everyone should give him a second chance. Years later when A-Rod was in the same situation, the captain made a big show of not defending him. He'd say it was Alex's problem and he was going to have to deal with hit. The fearless captain still had a sore ass about comments A-Rod had made in a magazine story years earlier. Punk.

Anyone knows if DOB has some college football to cover this weekend so we could enjoy having Mike Monaco in the booth for this series?

Weighing in on hated Yankees. My list goes: Paul O'Neal, Posada, Chad Curtis, Tanyon Sturtze, and Jim Leyritz who oozed a certain NY Paisan personality before Jersey Shore was a thing. I've seen NY style pizza's with less grease than that dude.

I will say the Yankee I hate more than any other is Clemens. I even despised him when he was on the Sox. Clemens actually picked up the barrel of the broken bat and threw it at Mike Piazza while he was running to first. I do not know if the umpire threw his ass out of the game, but the umpire should have!!! Later Clemens said he thought it was the ball??? Why the hell would he have been throwing the bat at a base runners. Obviously Clemens was a lying jacka$$! I hope he gets elected to the Hall of Fame AFTER he is dead.

Not sure how you can say Jeter is selfish! He gave the visitors to his apartment care packages when they left! With memorabilia! How thoughtful!

Root, root, root for the Bluuuuuuue Jays. If they don't win it's ashame.
With a PS spot nearly assured, I'm rooting for the Blue Jays against the Twinkies this weekend. I don't want the stress of a one-gamer against the MFYs.

Interesting take that you hated the staff ace who earned three Cy Young awards for your favorite team. I loved the guy. I loved that whole 86 staff with Rocket, Hurst, the Can and Joh Tudor. Are there Pats fans that hate Brady? I’m really asking, because I am not a Patriots fan.

It will be interesting to see if Cole goes to the hair between every pitch and whether that gets checked by the umps. Considering his performance last outing, I wonder if he got warned not to do that.
