I picked the White Sox, but facing the Astros would be fun too (if a bit more challenging) - just happy to have the chance to move on at this point!

Doesn't matter to me. If we can beat the Rays we can beat anyone.

National Media is linking RS with Houston again. Two different situations and attitudes.

Pale Hose, please. I think they have a good chance to beat either but in April I put $32 down on the Red Sox to win the ALCS at 30:1. What I was really betting was that if the Sox and Alex Cora could hang within shouting distance in the first half, then get Chris Sale back in the second half, they might get into the WC game, win it, and have a puncher's chance in the ALDS. Now that they're in the ALCS, I can hedge my ticket for the Sox to win the ALCS with a bet on whoever their opponent will be -- and the White Sox will definitely give me better odds on that bet than the Astros will. Before you accuse me of being a fair weather fan for hedging, ask yourself this: If you gave me $32 and I promised that I would give you back $992 if the Sox win the ALCS... or you could give me $500 and I would *guarantee* you that I would give you $992 after the ALCS, regardless of the outcome, which would you do?
Let's go South Siders!!

If we do get the Astros you gotta think the baseball gods will deal them some heartbreak at some point, hopefully it’d be against us

The White Sox starters make me a bit nervous. But… they have Kimbrel, so as long as the Sox are within ~5 in the 8th, they have a very good chance.

I picked the Astros to win the World Series, so this was a very easy vote for me.

Who do we start in game 2? Feel like you try to build off this momentum with ERod and keep him on regular rest. Try to get Sale right by starting him at home in game 3. Give Pivetta the extra rest and start him in game 4.
Houck and Perez the emergency long guys.

Gotta get Sale right. I think it would be extremely difficult to win the World Series if they do not.

I think the Sox are more evenly matched with the Sox rather than the Astros so I'd rather see a battle of Sox. The Astros would have the home field advantage and they already know every pitch that's coming, so that's a scary lineup throughout. The Rays scored as many runs (I think they scored more) but the Sox somehow silenced Lowe who had killed them all year and the bottom of the order could be pitched to, but it was only Arozarena and Franco they had to worry about.
The Astros lineup is deeper although catcher is still a hole. They have strong pitching, pitchers they trust to go more than 4 innings.
The White Sox have more holes in their batting order and the Kimbrel thing backfired on them so while Kopech can overpower and Hendriks is good, the Red Sox would have a better chance against them.
At this point I hope they play 5 hard fought exhausting games. Glad the Sox have 3 days to recuperate their pitching. Pivetta and Houck must be exhausted.

White Sox because I like that team much better, hurting would hurt a little less, plus I they're an easier match up and from a historical perspective the first ever Sox vs. Sox ALCS seems fun. Having said that man it would be sweet to beat the Astros again.

The Sox didn't even seem competitive against the Astros this year. The way the Sox are playing now has the "team of destiny" vibe to it so who knows. Weird because the defense still is sloppy and the starting pitching and bullpen are overall a roll of the dice. A bounce back from Sale would be huge but based on his downward trend in command and velocity that would defy logic. April Martinez has been a godsend and more of the same from Devers, Hernandez, Bogaerts and Schwarber could possibly carry the team.

White Sox, think they're an easier matchup (and I'd get to go!).

You have to figure Eovaldi and E-Rod for Games 1 and 2.

I think people are way overreacting to two bad (and unlucky) starts from Sale. In 9 starts he had a 3.16 ERA this season, with peripherals that match up well with the best starters in the league.
Between his start in Washington and his appearance against the Rays, I won't say he pitched like an ace, but he had a .900 BABIP against. .900! He recorded 10 outs in the two games, and 9 of them were strikeouts. And the grand slam he gave up was a 96mph fastball outside the zone.
You can't make excuses forever, but we're talking about 3 poor/unlucky innings from a pitcher who has a phenomenal track record, even this season. And if he's only at 80%, that's still probably the best pitcher on the Red Sox.

I am not really (only) wondering because of his outcomes, but also he seemed like less of an option after his start. Maybe they didn’t want to push his arm with a relief appearance, but when they went through a lot of pen and didn’t warm him (or gassed Pivetta), it seemed potentially like a new reticence.

My guess was that he was penciled in as the closer in game 4; but they didn't go into the 9th with the lead. Otherwise he'd be held back to start game 5.

I'd missed this previously, but I read this morning (and don't even remember where) Cora apparently said Sale was going to come in with the lead in Game 4 to face the LHBs, but they never had the lead.
