Let's not get hot under the collar here. Let's just think about a couple of things. (1) If the games are going to be managed like this, with MAYBE at best a starter going 5 innings but maybe not in most games, is this a kind of pitching strategy that the Sox can make a winning strategy? Do they really have the horses to do it? I dunno - Houston's offense is too good, and the Sox don't have enough reliable arms to get away with it and find a way to win 4 games. Unless Houston's pen is equally shallow and we can make this series largely into a slugfest. Unless ...... (2) If Sale threw 60 pitches as a glorified opener tonight, could it be that hethe strategy is to bring him back for games 4 and 7, and go with 3 starters? Use Sale as a glorified opener, and use both Pivetta and Houck as innings 4-7 or 5-8 pitchers. If they could each do that twice in this series and Whitlock can close the door, maybe that's Cora's strategy to get to 4 wins. When you pull starters early, you can start them on less rest or use them in the bullpen. I really think that someday in the next 10 years, you'll see teams with 8 pitchers that can throw 3+ innings and there will be almost no traditional starters. This is much more viable with 26 man rosters. I agree that this is the direction BB is heading and I find it kind of sad. The sport is losing the pre-eminence of the stud SP, the Pedro type who sells the place out every time he pitches and mows down pricks for seven innings.

That's like Angel Hernandez calling a Greg Maddux game from 1992.

Ump or no… Javier is nasty. I’m happy to have him throw a ton of pitches while they are down. Maybe he’ll be unavailable next game.

Embarrassing to have this kind of umpiring. They weren't particularly close either. Disgusting.

Taylor is coming for the next inning Seems logical -- Taylor for the 5th, Houck or Pivetta to take innings 6-8, and Whitlock to finish. Maybe that's the plan.

Don’t you think that Dusty Baker’s hands would get all sweaty in those rubber gloves?

If everyone keeps putting up good innings, I wouldn't be surprised if he tries doing it without bulk relievers. Brasier, Robles, etc. But that's getting way ahead of things.

Embarrassing to have this kind of umpiring. True. If Manfred cares about the credibility of his sport, he needs to fast-track a plan for robots.

Taylor here feels very risky, I don't see it. Risky, but two of the first three hitters were LH, which I'm sure is why he's in. He looked real good last series too. Positive vibes!

I just don't get not going to Houck in the mid-innings in a game where your starter goes short.
