He likely added several years to his life just by how hard he fought it. I was kind of shocked when he came out with the tank. I knew he was ill but I didn't think he'd want to take the field one last time. But he must have. RIP.

Another absurd moment, when his tooth came out in broadcast and Orsillo was harping on how teeth shouldn't have nails in them.

One great memory: Remy getting a triple in Yankee Stadium on a ground ball hit so hard that the center fielder couldn't get to it. And last night in the Stand Up to Cancer moment during the World Series game, someone had his name on the card they were holding up.

I remember him playing. What a feisty, Pedroia iike guy. His good contact, speed and baseball smarts made him a solid all around guy. I hope they retire his name/#. As a Sox commentator he ranks up there with Gowdy. Local boy a true Red Sox, literally, for life.

RIP Jerry. Always was a joy watching any game he was calling. My favorite moment was the air guitar/falling over in the booth. Baseball for me is going to be less enjoyable without Jerry involved in it in some way.

RIP and thanks Jerry. Has been a part of the Sox for all of it that I can remember, as a player and broadcaster. I left New England in 1988, but always have loved sitting down in front of NESN when I'm in town visiting.
It won't be the same without him, and I'll miss it.

A friend and non-Sox fan remembers this play:
"He once said the funniest thing I've ever heard from a commentator. Manny Ramirez, a problematic fielder to say the least, was playing left field one day, and a ball was hit out there that rolled past him and was knocking around in the corner like a pinball. Manny couldn't get to it even after 2 ricochets off the walls. He ran about 4 different directions trying to get to the ball. This went on for about 10 seconds, an eternity in that context. As the ball now was rolling free with Manny in hot pursuit, Remy casually remarked: "Manny just likes to follow it around and see what it eats.""

My personal favorite moment: Thank you sooo much for these. I just sat and replayed and laughed for a half hour. Jerry and Orsillo together could remind me of a couple of funny guys in Algebra causing most of the class to fight back giggles while the teacher was writing stuff on the board. I miss those wonderful/rare moments of pure joy, lightening up both high school and NESN. Together they were so knowledgeable, down to earth, funny, outrageous. Remdog and Eck together were humorous in different ways and also, baseball-wise, profound. What a loss.

When I first saw the story on MLB I was heartsick. He fought long and hard with that despicable disease and was a trooper about it all. I will miss all the Jerryisms and his call on the Pizza incident. That was priceless. I will never forget the time he was stuck out inf rightfield because they were short on players there and a fly ball was hit to him and he came charging in hard for it and the next you see him turn around heading back after the ball and it landed about 30 feet behind him headed for the right field wall. That was the last time he played right field. Rest in Peace Jerry. You will be deeply missed.

I just learned of Jerry's death this afternoon and feel a deep sense of loss. RIP. My favorite pairings were Jerry with Ned Martin and later with Sean McDonough, themselves both excellent broadcasters. Jerry made broadcasts more entertaining whomever he worked with.
During a radio broadcast of a Sox game during the playoffs (wild card game?) I heard Sean McDonough fighting back tears when talking about Jerry and I feared the end might be near. Count me among the many who will truly miss him.

I thought recently when they went 3 in a booth was pretty entertaining.
I knew that cancer wasnt letting go of him it was looking tough. They always go back to the pizza throw from the fan I think it was on a marathon monday.
Orsillo was good, Mcdonough and I love when Eck was in the booth. RIP REMDOG.
I hope they do something with the booth name it after him or whatever.

The Sox telling Orsillo that his tribute wasn't needed is such a low blow. Stuff like this is why people can't stand this ownership as a whole.

I don't think there was anyone in the ballpark last night who paid to be there who wasn't sure there would be something from Don. Certainly not the folks around me.

Bad look for the Red Sox for not including Orsillo in the Remy tribute last night. So many Red Sox fans grew up listening to Remdog and Orsillo broadcast the Red Sox games. Perhaps they were concerned that the fans would recognize how boring and bland the current NESN broadcast crew is by comparison.

God I hate ownership/NESN Love Don but he always likes tweets of people dissing DOB/NESN and then his likes go viral, so I’m not shocked given how petty NESN is.
