Dylan Crews lit up UMaine opening weekend. 6 for 11 with a double, two triples, four walks. Played center all three days. He did strike out once though. From yesterday:

How much do aluminum bats increase exit velos?

Fabian, who didn’t.t struck out, got robbed by Liberty CFer last night and I mean Sportcenter Top Plays robbed 😂 Rough start, again, for Fabian. 2-17 with 6 Ks. It'll be interesting to follow the careers of Fabian and whoever the Sox pick at 41(?). I'm not rooting against him, I just want the comp pick to do better. It looks like he hasn't improved on his swing and miss issues so as of now I doubt he gets a bigger bonus than what the Sox offered. He's lucky it is only February still. He started out this rough last year.

From yesterday: Crews had a triple and a homer, but Berry went 1/4, so at least one of those from him was foul. Neither of them were SEC player of the week however, that honor went to Cade Doughty, he of the .500/.520/.955 triple slash line. Doughty a guy to watch out for, probably a top 50 guy in the draft this season, could easily play his way up boards. Could be an average hit / average power superutility type at the next level (or could be more or less or whatever).

Tommy White with another homer, his eighth of the season already. Lot of them going the other way to right center too.
Got a very careful four pitch walk in his second at bat of the second game of the double header.

Ninth for White in game two of the double header. That makes it nine homers in eight games for the freshman

As impressive as 9 home runs in 8 games is, I wouldn't grade his power as something obscene. It's very impressively consistent so far, but he's not hitting it 500 feet or anything that I've seen. I'm going to have to go catch a few games...

Still I'd say very impressive and hope the young man continues to build. He seems a fun guy to watch.

The rep on him coming out of HS was I think that he had a well developed hit tool for a HS slugger, but that he could do more to tap into impressive raw power. I didn't see him in HS (I tend to think it's silly when online commenters profess any level of familiarity with HS prospects) but I remember seeing things like "could improve swing path" in scouting running up to 2021 draft.

I remember one of the guys here being excited about Kevin Parada, catcher out of Georgia Tech. Really turned it on week two, now hitting .485/.553/1.061 on the year young season. With all first two week hitting results, this ought to be taken with an (un)healthy pinch of salt. But for those interested, Ga Tech plays UGa in a home/away/neutral series this weekend. UGa's Friday night starter, Jonathan Cannon, has been excellent on the year so far and is expected to be a top 100 pick. I'll probably try and catch the game, it'll be my first time on the season catching either player, though I'm not sure how actively I'll be watching.
Fun video of him taking an outside pitch the other way and driving it hard:

Looks like Chase DeLauter has settled into a groove (admittedly against not great competition)

Looks like Chase DeLauter has settled into a groove (admittedly against not great competition) Speaking of not great competition, the Fabian brothers against FAMU yesterday: Deric - 3/5, 2 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI Jud - 3/4, 2 HR, 2 BB, 4 R, 3 RBI

Looks like Chase DeLauter has settled into a groove (admittedly against not great competition) Speaking of small school talent with limited opportunities to play against big teams, Zach Neto of Campbell is a highly rated ss with Javy Baez type comps (actually, Campbell has a pretty decent schedule this season, but still, small school stuff). Played against Maryland over the weekend and they just didn't want to pitch to him apparently. Two walks in every game and a hbp. Lotta moving parts to his swing but great athlete and makes it look like its working most of the time. Hit well in the Cape too.

Ugh. He'd looked good as a starter after being pretty dominant as the closer last year (struck out 100 out of 213 batters faced in '21).

NU (that's Northeastern NU for ya'll) with a road sweep of the then #8 ranked NC State over the weekend. For their reward, Northeastern will face undefeated and now #19 ranked Clemson this coming weekend. Nice to see New England schools making some noise on the national stage.

For those who will eventually wonder the same thing I did: Sebastian Keane started Saturday and went 6 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 walks, a hit batter, 2 runs (0 earned) and 2 strikeouts.

Remember when they had three pitchers picked in the top 10?

Remember when they had three pitchers picked in the top 10? It's hard to believe that was 18 years ago. And to think that trio ended up with only 5.2 career bWAR - Townsend never made the majors, Humber basically did nothing outside of that perfect game, and Niemann was mediocre over 5 years.

They all ended up with injuries, mostly to their arms, too. Honestly never sure how earned it is in comparison to other college coaches, but former Rice coach Wayne Graham had a real rep for riding guys until their arms fell off.

Tough news for top ranked Texas - Tanner Witt is having TJ surgery. Considered one of the top arms for next year's draft.
