2022 Minor League Spring Training

Am I the only person here who feels totally sanguine about the bullpen? It seems fine to me, with good depth. (I should admit to not having seen a single imming of preseason games, but I really don't think that should matter.) I'm just glad we don't have to rely on a "proven closer" like Kimbrel or Jansen... those guys always seem to flame out. Totally agree, I think I posted on this thread or another, but with Bazardo, Winchowski, Holland, Feltman, Kelly, Robles, and German there’s some good Triple-A depth there. Even Schreiber, Garza, Ort are decent depth. Ort, Seabold and Feltman haven’t looked great with super flat fastballs and loose sliders (haven’t really seen Seabold’s changeup showcased), but conversely we’ve seen great stuff out of Crawford and German. German would be a sweet added benefit of the Ottavino trade

Also, spring doesn’t matter, but Bobby has a sub 20% K-rate (last spring was closer to 40%), hopefully that’s a sign of things to come. His swinging strike also look more under control and his two-strike approach looks much shorter to the ball, especially on fastballs up.

Point #3 seems pretty relevant considering what the current pen arms have mostly looked like... Truth… bring them all up (almost serious). Barnes, Brasier, Sawamura, and even Diekman look absolutely awful. Hopefully help will find its way from AAA to the majors.

I wouldn't lump him in with those other guys... but I would add Darwinzon to that list.

When are ya’ll going to make Mayer your number one prospect? He was a better prospect than Casas when he was fielding grounders on San Diego high school fields.

Barnes is sitting like 93 and I doubt he’s holding up at that velo. Maybe in middle relief but not high leverage. Not sold that he’s any different than he was in the second half last season

As I've written elsewhere, if he can conjure up the sort of juju he was channeling for over two months at the end of last season, he'll be quite dangerous. Even those controlled swings can lead to outfielders craning their necks trying to catch sight of balls way above them. If that does happen, it's the last piece in what would be a hell of an infield.

If he’s sitting 93 in may I’ll be pretty surprised Like others say I enjoy the high minors relief depth we have. Some electricity in it. I’d prefer to keep Winckowski as a back end starter type for as long as possible.

I was comparing #2 earlier yesterday, thinking it’s as talented a top 3 as I’ve seen in quite a while. Hopefully they all pan out, that would be quite an infield.

Brasier, Darwinzon, and Sawamura all have options. If they are really bad, then I hope the RS use the option. Agree. I know we have a limit to 5 ups and downs this year, but early in the season would be a good time to do some shuffling while we see who's right and ready.

I moved a bunch of posts over the the spring training thread - reminder that this thread is only for discussion related to minor league spring training. Thanks!
