The unwritten rules were basically written by pitchers, right? OK to throw at guys’ heads, but don’t you dare try to bunt for a hit or pimp a home run? In fairness, most pitchers view headhunting as bush.

2 homers for Guerrero against Cole #stickysituation I blame whoever sang the Ukrainian national anthem before the game. It's a real earworm and Cole understandably can't concentrate after hearing it.

Dave Roberts is trying too hard. How do you pull kershaw with 80 pitches, In the middle of a perfect game? Add, so happy it didn’t work out Roberts did the same thing to Rich Hill. Though I believe Hill was having blister issues at the time. Also, Walker Buehler came out after six no hit innings in May 2018, and Ross Stripling was removed after 7 1/3 no hit innings in April 2016.

Salary increases/decreases by team YoY. Oakland fans should be livid.

Is it a skill to have a higher percentage of your contact have exit velocity? Can certain people sustain higher exit velocity, and thus a higher BABIP.

Conversely, this certainly suggest the bunt/hit-em-where-they ain’t style slap hitter might be dead. Those softer hit balls must be overwhelmingly the result of getting beaten… not poking or bunting.

The better question is if it's predictive. Do players with higher exit velocities relative to contact tend to go further than those with equal numbers but less velocity.

I'm confused by the question. Isn't it the most obvious answer "yes"?
If you hit the ball harder, it's more likely to be a hit because of so many reasons, such as the fielder not having as much time to get to it if it's not directly at him.
Of course it's a skill. Does anyone think that Devers is going to stop hitting the ball hard?

Does anyone think that Devers is going to stop hitting the ball hard? The question though is whether a player like Devers (or anyone else) can consistently sustain a higher distribution of hard hit balls, essentially to Ray's point around whether this is a predictive stat. Which would then translate into a higher BABIP for certain players. Or do most players have a bell-curve distribution around a similar exit velocity?

Roki Sasaki: first perfect game in Japan since 1994, record-tying 19 strikeouts, struck out 13 straight batters at one point. Best NPB pitching performance ever? He’s insane 😂

John Means to 60 day IL with an elbow strain. He had a rough time the last couple months of 2021, then the Orioles were rumored to be shopping him, now this.

Has anyone in America — even in the minors — recorded 52 straight outs?

Way too pre-emptively excited to get Sasaki to the Majors. He might have the best fastball and the best splitter in the world at this moment. Sad it’ll likely be years.

Has anyone in America — even in the minors — recorded 52 straight outs? I believe the record in the MLB is 15.1 innings (46 batters) by Yusmeiro Petit, beating out Mark Buehrle and teammate and former Sox Bobby Jenks. Not sure about minors.

The obvious joke would be that Tommy Pham can't hit the broad side of a barn this year so Luke Voit is probably safe. But for real, Tommy Pham is a person you should definitely not fight. Luke Voit should hide.
