Found it interesting that Beeks has been averaging 95+ (in relief but still up a few ticks) on his fastball this year and is racking up the Ks too. Always liked him as a prospect

Xander’s WAR is going to be the first casualty 😅

After their big spending spree, the Texas Rangers stand at 2-9. Fangraphs gives them a 2.0% chance at making the playoffs.

Xander’s WAR is going to be the first casualty 😅 Yep. His 2016-2021 WAR dropped from 26.8 to 23.6. Meanwhile JBJ's went up from 12.3 to 15.5.
ADD: Devers retroactively overtakes Mookie for team WAR champion in 2019, lol. He had a 6.8 WAR season!

Nothing more exciting than statistical revisions years later. I eagerly await the new measures of how many home runs Ruth hit in 1927.

Yeah, I mean one upshot of this (which was already implied by the diversions between bWAR and fWAR) is that we really shouldn't sweat WAR calculations beyond the first significant figure.

Would players get retroactive pay raises if the owners had had their way about using WAR for arbitration?
Kind of shocking how Xander went from nearly as good as Lindor to barely better than Baez over the last half decade. Guessing Boras won't use that in his free agent pitch.

I completely agree with the strategic decision, but intentionally walking Miguel Cabrera while he has 2,999 hits is such a Yankee move.

So they were doing the same exact thing the stros and sox got hammered for except years earlier by the sounds of it... Makes Cashmans comment regarding not having a title for a while because they did it the "right way" and were cheated even more comical. What a joke. This could be quite the black eye on Manfred and the MLB and Yankees.

Counterpoint: Cabrera isn't a threat anymore and hadn't been intentionally walked since 2020. What makes it so lame is that it's a bad strategic decision. And as multiple people on twitter pointed out, this is probably the best argument yet for making the team throw the four balls, right? Miguel Cabrera ripping his 3000th hit while the opposing pitcher was trying to walk him would've been perfect.

The number of times this scenario would ever actually be necessary is extremely rare, but is it possible for a player to simultaneously decline the QO but also forego some kind of future benefit to where the draft pick cost associated with signing him is dropped? If the draft pick wasn't attached to him a Paxton-like deal would honestly be really smart and something I bet many teams would consider, but no chance as it stands.

Not sure if it's been discussed, but how about Michael Chavis? Frustrating he's not doing it with the Sox, but also happy for him. According to statcast he's 89th percentile in whiff rate, 97th K rate, 99th xAVG 79th in xSLG, 68th hard hit, 91 sprint speed and 88th in xwOBA. His K% is 7.1% and while it is a small sample, K% is one of the faster metrics to become stable at least according to what I've read. Not all is great either, such as his barrel%, BB%, chase rate and avg exit velocity. So it could all easily go away if pitchers just stop throwing to him in the zone, but either way it's nice to see him have success in the big, even if it isn't for the Sox.

Pause the shoveling! Mookie goes deep twice, adds two walks and a steal. Might have to put eulogies in the drawer.

Not the worst timing for Means, he finishes his rehab in 2023 and then gets one full year to impress for his free agency on a team that might finally be competitive.

Really cool moment seeing Miguel Cabrera getting his 3000th hit with Jose Iglesias there to congratulate him
