1/9th of the way through the season, Mike Trout has:
-A wRC+ of 270 (36 points higher than anyone else) -An OPS of 1.284 (129 points higher than anyone else) -A wOBA of .544 (46 points higher than anyone else)
To be fair, though, he has been lucky, as his xwOBA is only... .541. (That's 91 points higher than anyone else.)

You have to think that’s one of the more impactful umpshows in recent memory. Today's Red Sox game was close.

So this wipes Bauer’s contract from the Dodgers’ payroll?

Maybe the MFY will sign him once his suspension is done. They're rolling Aroldis Chapman (winged off a bunch of shots in a domestic dispute) out there and have stuck with Domingo German even after he slapped his GF and menaced her until she hid.

If this thread devolves into domestic violence report cards and virtue signals, I guess I'll stay away 🤷🏾♂️

If this thread devolves into domestic violence report cards and virtue signals, I guess I'll stay away 🤷🏾♂️ I suppose people are "signalling" that it is a "virtue" to not engage in domestic violence, though that seems like an odd way to frame it.
Anyway, the real point is perfectly wholesome and uncontroversial: to dunk on the Yankees.

Trevor Bauer suspended for two years. Legit question as I’ve not followed closely:How can MLB suspend him for a crime the authorities decided he did not commit? Doesn’t this risk a serous lawsuit against MLB?

Doesn’t this risk a serous lawsuit against MLB? Happens all the time. There doesn't need to be a conviction to suspend a player. There is no question he was involved in some really shady disgusting stuff that makes baseball look bad.

If the NFL can suspend Tom Brady for a quarter of a season because the league investigator is a Jets fan then nothing seems out of the realm of possibility anymore.

He's got a looong time to think about it so guessing he will both appeal in the MLB process and when that fails he'll sue in the legal system.

Get caught snorting blow at your desk, inflating your expense voucher or vandalizing company property and see if your employer waits for a court disposition to put you out on the street.

The most exciting story of the season might be the Reds. Could they be all-time bad?

Get caught snorting blow at your desk, inflating your expense voucher or vandalizing company property and see if your employer waits for a court disposition to put you out on the street. Right, but he didn't do any of that. I completely understand it "looks bad" for MLB, and I'm not an attorney. But my gut says if neither woman could even reach the standard of proof for a restraining order in L.A., then Bauer probably will be making a pile of cash off MLB one way or another. Sounds like a sketchy human, anyway, but this just seems pretty slippery by MLB.

So does the suspension let the Dodgers off the hook for the remainder of his contract?

Legit question as I’ve not followed closely:How can MLB suspend him for a crime the authorities decided he did not commit? Doesn’t this risk a serous lawsuit against MLB? Steven Wright can answer your question… The suspension system is part of the CBA, so there's no lawsuit unless he wants to bring the validity of the CBA into question, which risks him getting black-balled from the union. Players are suspended all of the time for things which aren't deemed illegal, so the legality has little bearing on the suspension. The delay is to give the legal system a chance to play out beforehand. Bauer will appeal, as is his right, under the CBA. Typically these types of suspensions are agreed upon with the player in order to forego the appeal, but Bauer & MLB either couldn't negotiate an agreement, or one side chose not to negotiate. Due to the length of suspension, I'd say Bauer has a strong case in getting it reduced.

So does the suspension let the Dodgers off the hook for the remainder of his contract? Yes - but they were paying him prior to this suspension. And the suspension will be appealed by Bauer.

Haven’t had a Hunter Renfroe update in while. 5th homer tonight. He would obviously be our best OF at this point.
