Has Groome pitched yet? If not, is he up tomorrow?

Now it is of course some obvious foolishness to express any sort of optimism about Franchy Cordero. But...
He has fewer major league PAs than Bobby Dalbec. He only had 136 last season; he just packed so much futility into about five weeks' worth of PAs that it *feels* like more than that.
I'm just saying. If you gave up on every player who stunk through that point in their career, you'd be writing off a whole lot of excellent major leaguers.

…”blasted” as in commenting that JBJ and the two prospects were IMO a definite win… Darwinzon 5 2/3 in - 0 hits - 9 Ks (I better mention small sample size before someone complains about that too) Plus two BBs that came both came around to score in his first "start." They appear to be grooming him to be another 2-3 IP every 2-3 days guy, like what they're doing with Whitlock. It'll be a lot of fun if it works. I've often wondered if that would be a viable strategy. Shorten games and take a load off the 1-inning/back-to-back guys.
Maybe. But I doubt that's the real goal at this point. They just want to get him more work. Like more innings, more opportunities to work on refining and repeating his delivery to the point where he can maintain some amount of control. His stuff is clearly nasty, he just needs to be able to keep more guys off the bases via BB's. 2-3 innings stints for development gives more chances to work on things than 1 inning stints. That's all that's all that's happening here.

Tough day for Jeter - 0-for-4 with 4 strikeouts and a walk.

Mayer comes through with a 2-out bases-loaded single in the 7th on the first pitch, followed by a single from Blaze. 6-1 Salem.

The 2 to 3 inning relievers are not new as that was an every day occurrence back in the 1970s when I started following the Red Sox. If you look at Rollie Fingers from the A’s, he had plenty of multiple inning saves. It was weird to see relievers taken out after just one inning. The two inherited runner of Darwinzon’s in the first start were helped by the wonderful pitching of Hart. He may end his time in Worcester with a nearly perfect 100 percent of all inherited runners scoring. Hart allowing runners to score is almost as sure as the sun coming up in the morning. I bet he is released by mid season if not sooner, and he looks to be the bulk guy to follow Darwinzon……

Another year of no reason to ever look at a Portland pitcher's ERA because of joke defense And now the next inning has begun with two popups that drop in front of the defense. I’ll know there’s the wind excuse, but they need to catch these. The wind was very inconsistent and when it was both strong and swirling it was very difficult. Black clouds overhead with blue skies adjacent--it was a little unnerving. (I am definitely feeling the wind burn now.)

That's gotta be the same exact release point of Chris Sale. Not that that means anything.

I think it’s safe to say that SS is the strongest position in this organization. With the obvious Mayer to go along with Hamilton, Lugo, Koss and our big guys, Bogey and Storey. Good thing is that shortstops can be moved around to other positions.
