This tweet is awesome across the board. A funny thing to note is that 3 of Mayer's 7 whiffs occurred in his first at bat last night against opposing starter Nic Swanson. Guy threw multiple different offspeed pitches with a slightly funky release. Good for Mayer to start to get exposed to that sort of stuff.

I'm confident he'll get used to it pretty quick. He honestly might not have seen anyone like it before between his limited rookie level ABs and HS ball. Double checking the play by play, they only have two swinging strikes from his first AB, but I had thought he'd offered at all three - whatever. His second AB against the same guy though, you could already tell how much he'd already clued in on the approach. Fouled off a pitch and brought it out to 3-1 before hitting a fairly solid gb to second. |

Part of Gilberto's development needs to not only be a change in swing path to a degree but also increased selectivity to swing at pitches to drive. He might hit .300 again but this doesn't give me a ton of confidence in his future overall projection. |

As I said in yesterday’s thread, I’ve never seen someone this agressive before. |

Mayer 2 strikeouts now. I believe he's seen nothing but breaking pitches. Can’t make it the big leagues if you can’t hit a breaking ball. Bust? Kidding aside, the guy they’re facing is almost 23 yo and averaged more than 10 K/9 in his MiLB career. |

Hopefully he stays healthy and keeps on what seems to be the path he is on to join the likes of some of their other intriguing arms knocking on the door of the MLB. While I don't dismiss the ceilings listed for pitchers, they obviously tell more of about these prospects than I could hope to know on my own. However at the same time, there are quite a few mid rotation to front of the rotation type of guys around the league who blew right past their so called ceilings and let's be honest the sox are about due to develop a mid to front rotation type of guy. My fingers are crossed that it's someone currently in the system! |

Watching the tape of the game: 1 hit in his five innings; it was the leadoff batter who hit a broken-bat dribbler towards SS, which Mayer did not handle cleanly in on the grass, although Mayer probably could not have thrown out the leadoff hitter if he had. After a K he was erased on a 6-4-3. |

Gonzalez was up to 98 mph in spring training and has the makings of a solid three-pitch starter’s mix. I had him a couple spots below this, but guessing both SP and I may end up with him in top 10 by end of year

It will be nice to see if the Greenville attack does that to other staffs.
